Someone told me it made the oven heat unevenly and cooking time longer, but I keep foil on the bottom of it so it's easier to clean. Just wondering if it was really true that it's more harmful than helpful.

Instead of using foil on the bottom, when I am cooking something messy, I use a pan on the shelf under it to catch drippings and spills. It has not affected my cooking time or heat distribution.

I don't use aluminum foil. I buy an aluminum oven liner and put it under the very bottom coils. I've never had a problem with cooking times or uneven temperatures.

I have had a good quality in the bottom of my oven for years. HAVE NEVER ANY ADVERSE EFFECTS. MAKE SURE IT IS UNDER THE COILS ON THE BOTTOM. MINE JUST LIFTS UP. I THINK THATS CRAZY TO SAY THE FOIL ABSORBS HEAT ESPECIALLY THE SHINNY SIDE. IT SHOULD REFLECT THE HEAT OFF. WHY WOULD THE OVEN SIDES BE SHINEY?

the foil absorbs so much of the heat, especially with the shiny side up, that it has a negative impact on the heat distribution.
