If you're going to London, then there are a million and one things to do!

It may be cliched but I do recommend taking the Tour Buses.. it's probably the quickest way to sample all the famous sights in one go! You can visit them individually at leisure later, should you desire.

Do attend a musical, they're fab.

Do visit the museums, they're super fab as well. Younger children might enjoy the Science & Natural History Museum. For art buffs, there's the Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum and Tate Modern, and then there's the British Museum (set aside a WHOLE day for this one!)

If you're there for the summer, the summer sales are mad. Oxford St is great for shopping, apart from the huge department stores like Selfridges, Harrod's and Harvey Nichols.

My personal favourite place to visit when I'm in London is Camden Town. It's absolutely eclectic. The Street Markets in Camden town are simply amazing.. and there are several of them too along the main street!

The first time I was there, I spent two weeks and still did not have enough time to see everything London had to offer, it's just amazing. I hope you and your family have a great time! :O)

ps. btw, you want to go to Tower Bridge, not London Bridge, and ride on the London Eye. And make sure you always carry a small umbrella, it rains rather frequently there! :O)

Every time I go to London I'm amazed at all the things there are to do. And even if you're not in London, there's loads of historical sites and shopping and just so much interesting stuff. You'll think that just plain old shopping and watching tv are amazing because they are so different.

In London, these are the things I never miss:

>Westminster Abbey. You may be tempted to ride the London Eye which is very near the Abbey, but skip it ~ it's too expensive and it's not *that* exciting.

>Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park

>Camden Town for shopping ~ go on a sunny Saturday, it's too much fun.

>Find a proper good old pub and order Fish & Chips. Don't bother with the pubs in the airport, those are fake pubs. You want a proper one that's 100 years old or maybe more.

>Portobello Road for shopping ~ people sell vintage clothes, old silverware, t-shirts, things like that. It's fun. It's also near where the movie Notting Hill was filmed.

>LUSH ~ this is a chain shop in England and you will find one somewhere in your travels. Don't miss it!

Those are just a very few of my personal favorites. You will certainly discover your own once you're there. I've done everything from Art Museums to a Jack the Ripper tour to Alton Towers (an amusment park quite far north of London). Every trip I've taken has been so memorable and wonderful, but every time it's a little different because I discover new things. My advice is not to plan things out too strictly, leave room for wandering about and just experiencing things in a free-form way. Wander into shops and see what you find. Belgian chocolates in one, Doc Marten boots in the next, antiques in the next...and everywhere you look are historical buildings. If you like art and history, there's no better place.

Buy a guidebook, I have a Fodor's guide which is nice, plus a few more. It will give you ideas about things to see. Usually the descriptions are too brief to really know what to expect, but at least it's something. You'll have a great time no matter what you do.

Have fun!

As great as London is, it isn't ALL there is in England. If you have time, take a few days to explore the beautiful, quaint, historic village of the Cotswolds. So peaceful and wonderful- Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Winchcombe, Stow-on-the-Wold and so many more. Also, the area around Salisbury where Stonehenge is as well as many other interesting sites. yes, get a Fodor's... there is SO much to do and see in England it takes several trips to even make a dent. Have a fab trip!

If you like shopping I would also recommend that you visit Covent Garden and Seven Dials (which is nearby). Covent Garden used to be a big market and has been converted into a huge mall, with lots of interesting shops, and street entertainers. In Seven Dials there are more shops, but they are the little interesting ones that sell things you don't find in the malls.

And if you do come to Scotland, visit Edinburgh, the most beautiful city in the world.
