Oh it's real. Your body is going through changes and messing with your mind as well. But women (and even men) do use it as an excuse for irrational behavior.

I'm not a lady, but I have observed during my first 2-1/2 years of married life that PMS is real. It's easier for her to be edgy, or disagreeable, or feel like she's being rejected (emotional) during this time... if it's your wife your dealing with, she just needs to be reassured of your love, and even though she seems like she's got her claws out - she really wouldn't mind a hug.
