They can't reach Yankee land as they have not the missile or aircraft to do this. The reason for the worry is that they can reach Israel and because the Yanks have given them nuclear weapons and they will use them if attacked. It Israel that is the wild card in the Middle East and Bush is worried about them starting an all out Nuclear war. Iraq of course sees that Israel has the bomb and wants something to balance the situation, at present the whole nuclear issue is slanted toward the yanks against the rest of the world and as the Yanks are at present the number one international terrorist that is the problem. I suspect that if the Yanks go into Iran then the world will be into a war that will last 100 years as they will have no supporters and are incapable of winning on their own.

Though this is an interesting question, it should be proceeded by the more important question, "What events would have to take place before Iran, or a coalition of nations led by Iran, could invade and conquer the continental U.S."
That aside, the taking and holding of America would be just this side of impossible. The world has watched while the richest, most powerful nation in the world has waged a string of losing wars against poor, barely trained guerrillas. What advances and victories do occur in these conflicts are often quashed by political infighting and war weariness. America by itself will not and has not been able to sew up Iraq or Afghanistan by itself.
So, the prospect of a country with a population less than one quarter its population, a 26th its GDP and a drastically different religion holding a country that is five times larger than it's own with a wealthy, better armed, better educated population fighting on its home turf is abysmal at best.

Hmm... very interesting scenario... Iran would probably set up Islam in the states to a greater degree than it exists there already, they'd need martial law though, because the American's wouldn't necessarily give up just because their military had been defeated, there'd be guerilla warfare going on for years...
Iran's bargaining power increases, and maybe the Iraq conflict gets sorted out, but as political Islam rose, the threat it posed would also increase... I don't know what would happen then- would the European powers accomodate Iran, or would they strike back whilst Iran was commited in the US? Probably they would strike Iran as a pre-emptive motion to try to stop themselves getting invaded and conquered... I think the latter is most likely... things would go nuclear, the world would become uninhabitable apart from to creatures in really deep sea trenches and a few amoebas... it we were lucky.
It's funny the number of people not even prepared to contemplate the scenario... okay, maybe Iran couldn't do it now, but that's not to say the US is 100% impervious to invasion. America is strong though, there's virtually no state on Earth that could succeed in such a venture at the moment, and just about all countries know it. Interesting to think about it though...

Isn't it amazing when so many people are seemingly incapable of answering a hypothetical question?
If Iran attacked the USA and managed to conquer the country there would be a wholesale change of lifestyle for the inhabitants i suspect. I would imagine that Iran, having decimated the American armed forces and siezed control of all levels of administration in the country, would be engaged for years fighting the 'insurgents' from within the american population. The suppressing of the insurgents would be a long and bloody battle but i'm sure the Iranian/USA president would be certain that by occupying the major cities and killing thousands (if not millions) of 'innocent' people, the Americans would eventually come around to the iranians way of thinking,
(is this ringing any bells yet folks?)
Following the Americans acceptance of the dominance of their Iranian rulers. Sharia law would be imposed on what's left of the the population. These new laws would have to be adhered to by all on pain of either death or incarceration in a remote island in the Arabian gulf with no trial, no representation or chance of release. Those who threaten the New rulers will be removed from their homes and jailed without necessarily having done anything wrong, the Iranians will ignore any attempts by Amnesty International or the United nations to reconsider their treatment of these 'insurgents'
Anyway, if you havn't 'got it yet then you must be really really stupid.....it's called 'if the boot was on the other foot' and requires a little deep thought instead of kneejerk reaction.

Doesn't seem to likely considering the thousands of nuclear bombs the US has and the fact that they're still trying to figure out how to make one.
The best most countries can do with the U.S. is hold them off until they run out the will to continue. That is, most U.S. citizens look dimly on expending American lives overseas to "keep the peace" or even to "spread democracy." They will, however, fight if they think it is for their own defense. This is why it took Perl harbor to get the US into World War II.
And that's why Bush had to lie to the public and say that he KNEW they had WMDs (he didn't say it was a possibility. He said it as a certainty).
In an attack on the U.S., the will to defend until death is pretty much infinite. That is, unless faced with vastly superior military force, the U.S. would continue to fight and use its massive market and manufacturing base to ultimately out-spend and out-live any attacker.
Ain't going to happen.
Remember, for better or worse, George W. Bush could anihilate every living creature in the entire Middle East within a few minutes.
Boy, ain't that a scary thought.

Totally irrelevant since conquering the USA would involve a beach landing that would never be allowed to fester off of our shores. A 3-4 million man military force would have to come across an ocean patrolled by our Los Angeles class fast attack subs. Not going to happen.
But the question was, "what if."
I would imagine that our tactical nukes would be deployed over their troops as they were coming in to retard their progress and deprive the enemy of any sort of land based support. A 22nd century scorched earth policy.
I would imagine that living in an Islamic Thoeocracy would be a fate worse than death for me. I could not bear to see women treated like that.

yutu - are you on drugs?
Do you know that the US has two armada fleets right in the oceans of the Middle East as we speak to prevent such an action?
Also, if and when your President is bold enough to call a war, missile and even the possibility of nuclear missiles will be unleashed, and you ALL would be in a situation worst then Iraq.
It will be a blood bath at a great multitude, so, don't even believe your own Middle East propaganda. It's all fake and lip service !

Assuming this is a serious question.
Are you taking your meds? I'm sure the doctor told you what would happen if you quit taking them.
Iran couldn't attack and conquer New Jersey. The boys down at Benny's Bar and Grill would take the day off and run their sorry little asses home.
The Iran fought a war with Iraq for EIGHT (8) years and couldn't capture as much as a parking lot. Are you smoking camel dung, again?
