Actually there are a handful of websites offering good tutorials on PHP and MySQL. Although I would recommend these websites. http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp , http://www.php-mysql-tutorial.com/ , http://devzone.zend.com/tag/PHP101 . Actually it takes some time to search for some good PHP tutorials and those are some of them. Good luck PHPing :D

Good books to begin with php are Larry Ullman's PHP for the world wide web and Larry Ullman's PHP & MySQL for the world wide web. Both are extremely easy to use and will have examples of practical real life applications.

You can get both from amazon for less then $40 bucks shipped and you will have learned alot more then hacking together ideas that may or may not be right via the web.

Search for php manual and mysql manual. These are excellent. Then look for a book on php and mysql, there are sveral available for this combination and they are quite cheap.
