I'm a receptionist and my job is far from demanding. I'll do odd things here and there for the guys I work with, but it's all work related.

One of them approached me this morning and asked if I know anything about iPods. I told him that no, I know nothing about them nor do I want to. He then stated that I don't have much to do, so he handed me a Web address and said that I can figure out how to fill his iPod for free from that site. He doesn't want to figure it out WITH me - he wants me to do his personal crap FOR him.

Am I out of line in thinking that's BS?

It's total BS... i'd be PO'd too.

Is he a boss or a friend-type co-worker??

If you're really hell bent against doing it, i'd go to your supervisor... after all, if you fill it for free, it's probably illegal downloading and all you would need is for an attorney to contact your company about the downloading being done on YOUR computer.

F that!!

Good luck chickie.

Do it simply to earn the points with him, the better your co workers work with you, the more management will notice that you are a leader of sorts...

To help you feel better about, consider that you will be learning something new and bettering yourself in a small way....

I do this too, sometimes it is exhausting, but the alternative is to come across as a cow and then where will that get you?
Be strong though later, dont become a slave, find the fine line

good luck

That is total crap, I say take the iPod and web-site to your boss and tell him that your co-worker wants you to help on company time but you don't know how and see if HE has any advice.

I don't see how the Ipod is work related. There's a big chance that those free downloads are illegal. I think Bozo is dumping his dirt on you, and either of his little task could get you fired. I'd give him his toys back and let him do his own dirty work. He's taking advantage of you.

It's all in the approach. Try to over look his poor people skills and learn that damn iPod inside out. Make him think you built the thing. He'll think well of you and perhaps brag to others about how well you do things.

NO! You are totally right! He sounds like a pompous jackass! I know when I was a waitress, just cause my mom and dad were friends with this guy who would come in as a regular, he expected me to go above and beyond waitress duties! He actually wanted me to get him a newspaper this one time in the hotel lobby(the restaurant was in a hotel)! Plus, he would always hit on me! I wasnt about to be his little Geisha girl!

I say, figure out how to do it, then fill his ipod with the absolutely most awful music you can find. Maybe some russian opera, mongolian love songs. Then make HIM try to figure out how to delete it.

Just sit there and don't do it. Then when he comes back and asks for the Ipod, give it back. He'll ask if it's done and you'll say that you didn't have enough time. I doubt he'll ask again tomorrow, and if he does, then just do the same thing. He can't make you do it.

No you are not out of line because is not part of your job desription if it bugs you that much speak to the boss/owner of the company and make your concern known. If it is the boss/owner who asked you to do it then do it and smile if you want to keep your job.

Hope this helps.
