it's nice to see typical christian hypocrites throwing stones at other people's glass houses, when they live in one themselves.
you need to get a life, dude. try living how your religion tells you to. that does not mean to critize and insult others. your prophet never did that. what makes it ok for you.
and we all know that you don't really care what we say...you use this as a forum to rant about your opinons. this is why the romans killed you people. maybe we should do that again. any takers? i have a special place reserved above my mantle for your head. what a prize that would be!!!

It's NOT a choice. I don't know how people think it is it, but it's most certainly not. I have known I was gay for 6 years and came out to a few friends yesterday at a party. Do you choose to have natural brown hair? Do you choose to have natural green eyes? Nope. Please stop with that ******* "Jesus hates gays" bullshit. I've heard it all too many times and it drives me nuts. I'm all for any religious beliefs and am not bashing christianity in the least, so if I'm not ridiculing your way of life, don't ridicule mine for something I had absolutely no control over.

I wasn't aware the "righteous people who do the things of God" were responsible for deciding what is and is not a sin. Sounds kind of judgmental to me. As far as your "it is not correct" statement, well that is your opinion.
If you are serious about your faith why don't you get to work? There are hungry people to be fed, impoverished people to find shelter for, sick to heal and lonely soles in need of companionship. So let me ask you this, keeping the teachings of Christ in mind, why are you spending your time worrying about homosexuality?

No, its not a choice -- homosexuality is natural, and probably genetic. (See Dr. Bruce Bagemihl; Biological Exuberance; St. Martin's Press for hundreds of examples of animal species in which exclusive homosexuality can be found and traced -- so yes, it really is natural)
As for the Bible. If I wanted to respect and believe as perfectly inspired a book that says that the earth sits on pillars (I Samuel 2:8) and is established UPON the waters (Psalms 24:1-2); that says that locusts and grasshoppers have four feet (Leviticus 11: 21-23) rather than six and that bats are birds (Leviticus 11:13-19) then I might think about what you have to say. If I thought that almighty God would not know how to figure pi, as the Bible authors could not, and proved quite clearly (I Kings 7:23 and 2 Chronicles 4:2) then I might even respect what you had to say. If I was less amused about the fact that the god of the Bible cannot do simple math, as is shown over and over (for example, count the Levites in Numbers 3:16-39 -- you will find that there are 300 more Levites when you finish adding than the Bible says there are. Errors like this are all over the place.) then I might harm myself trying to follow your teachings.
I on the other hand know that historically the Bible was not even canonized until 397 at the Council of Carthage, when it approved a resolution of the Synod of Hippo from 393. I know that there are no originals of the books in the Bible -- and that there were no originals at the time it was canonized -- the idea of the Biblical autographs is a joke that even some Biblical apologists admit to. I know that the books were determined by a vote of (Roman Catholic) bishops. I know history (you can too -- try reading the "Oxford History of the Christian Church" as a good starting place) and I know that the basis of the Christian faith was, not the Bible, or a set of writings starting with the Torah -- but rather faith in God and Christ, love for one another, and Eucharist. So, I think I will pass on your judgments, and, I admit, feel a certain pity for you.
Be well.
Kind thoughts,
Reyn

PS The following is to Mr. Jello -- I have also sent him the request by email. I have some respect for him because he HAS an email link -- many of the extremists do not.
Mr. Jello:
Please send me the citations for the studies you evidently cite when you say a child from a divorced home is more likely to be homosexual. I would expect such citations to note respected experts in their fields, not people like Paul Cameron and Richard Cohen who have been tossed out of the professional organizations in their respective fields, primarily (at least in Cameron's case) for getting caught falsifying data and committing academic fraud in, well, studies that were submitted for professional publication.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.
Kind thoughts,
Reyn

PPS To Herman below (a request has also been sent to him by email):
Be so kind as to forward to me the exact citation for the 12,000 ex-gays figure you use. I would appreciate a citation to a peer reviewed journal where an actual study of these people, establishing that they are really now heterosexual and not just re-closeted, is published. I am unaware of any accepted scholarship that shows proven ex-gays even exist. The standard on the fringe is to assert that they do while using persons who, under careful questioning or testing are not ex-gay, and simply have recloseted themselves. That matches my own experience. I know someone who claims to be ex-gay -- and when pushed he admitted that he continued to desire males every day but that he "wouldn't give in." That isn't ex-gay, with respect, that's just fear and shame and hatred turned into a poisonous stew -- leading him to recloset himself and live a truly hopeless resistance.
If there is such scholarship in a reputed journal, I am interested in seeing it.
Thank you for your consideration
Reynolds

Do you feel better now? I feel that the meaning of your question got lost in the rambling.
Again I say - it is not a choice. Being a lesbian or gay or bi-sexual or transgendered is like being blonde, brunette or red-head. You DO NOT have a say in this, it simply happens and you can choose to accept it or not. Those who don't live their lives in denial. Those who do live happier lives.
Why did God make male and female? Because he was bored and decided to play around. Same reason why there's animals and plants and Earth, if you choose to believe God, not evolution, created those things. I personally think we were created by beings similar to us, who were here first and made too many mistakes, so they cloned themselves and left our world, but there's a portal to their world so they can watch us, it's Atlantis, located in the Burmuda triangle.
And you know what's ironic? My theory is MORE plausible than yours!

Nobody seems to understand the fundamentals of homosexuality better than a Bible-banging heterosexual.
Kinda ironic how they spout about homosexuality being an abomination because they're incapable of reproduction "the old fashioned way"....yet they refuse to spout the same rhetoric to heterosexual couples who frequent fertility clinics in order to get pregnant.

Okay, so one morning, you woke up and thought "I have a CHOICE to make today, i can either be straight, homosexual, bisexual or transgendered", and you CHOSE straight?
If that happened then fine.
But what is more than likely, is that it was something that came naturally to you.
It's exactly the same for everyone else, despite their orientation, they did not choose, it is what feels natural to them.
I think you, and other people, whether they're religious fundamentalists or not, need to see that.

No, being gay is NOT a choice. It isn't a sin, because to be a sin, it has to meet certain criteria.
1. person must freely choose to do it
2. person must fully know it is wrong
Since it is neither wrong to be the way God made you, and it is not a choice, it is NOT a sin.

The more important questions is why did God make YOU? on the otherhand, may be you were not God's creation.
What were your parents thinking when they decided to have you!!!
Please stay away from this section of Y!A, will you? It will be a great relief to not have you on this group

I found the perfect section of yahoo answers right here! I'm a conservative on most issues, except gay rights. I do believe that the great majority of homosexuals are the product of a genetic change, but I have doubts about a very small minority who switch back and forth between gay, straight, bi, etc. Just like how genetics determins blonde from brunette, but you can choose to dye your hair (to fake what you really are). It seems to be the same for homosexuality, one way or another. If being gay makes a few more people in this sad world happy, then I support them.
