Basically looking for a miracle I suppose. When I start my car, the car has problems shifting. Most of the time it's a hard shift, sometimes the gears slip. Basically it sounds horrible, and it does it everytime the car shifts. Here's the caveat. If I wait for the engine to warm up AND re-start the car, everything works fine. Just the engine warming up itself doesn't change anything as I actually have to stop and restart the car.

Took it to a transmission guy and he looked at it. Thought there might be some electrical problem, but in the end he thought it was something inside the transmission. So I'd have to spend some serious cash to get that fixed. Which isn't worth it given the age of the car.

So I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be wrong with it without having to fix the transmission. It seems odd the the car works fine after I restart it when the engine heats up. Thanks for the help.

depending on how many miles you have on your car it may be worth fixing, I have a 95 saturn and even though the car isn't worth much it runs really good. 163,000 miles on it. but in my past expericnce with a toyota that had the same symptoms as your car is having the transmission went out soon after it starting having problems.

the main electrical connector on top of the trans and wiring to it are the first thing i would look at. they are known for having loose pins and the wiring gets rubbed at the a/c line causing bad connections. the connector is not hard to replace, but look at it and the wires very close. it is also possible that the valve body has a bad pressure solinoid.
most trans shops are not real familiar with saturn transmissions because they are not like anything else general motors has used. this may be a good time to have a dealer look at it.

It could be a bad sensor but I admit I'm not sure if the same type of sensors would be on a car built in '95 as on newer cars. But it's worth a look.
If it's truely a bad trans a costly rebuild may not be worth it on a 12 yr old car so you may want to look a good used low mileage trans which installed will be about half the price of rebuilding it.
I'm a big fan of www.car-part.com a great place for used parts.
