To self perpetuate, and infringe on the rights of it's citizens until they rebel. If you think that this in an extreme view, take a look at history. No government lasts forever.

To make hundreds of billions of dollars off the the Defense Industry, to line the pockets of a very small percentage of uber rich families.
They are doing a great job of it, too!
