It really depends on what time of year it is.

At the north pole, days are 24 hours long in the summer, and nights are 24 hours long in the winter. The opposite is true for the south pole.

In between it varies quite a bit.

Around March 21 on the North Pole, and around September 21 on the South Pole.

1. At the north pole sun rise once during the (northern) spring (March-April).
2. At the south pole the sun rises once during the (southern) spring (Sept-Oct)..
