the reason why is because I'm in community college, I only gained 7 units my first year, I barely graduated high school last year & I need 60 units to transfer, which is gonna take me a while, I wanna go to San Diego State or UC Santa Barbara, but I don't see the point of transferring because that means I would have missed out on 2 years or more of real college life, such as living in a dorm, partying, well I don't party because I never get invited to parties, but in 4-year universities nobody is really invited because you are either in a fraternity or sorority, or just walk or crash the party. My GPA in high school was 2.6, so thats pretty much horrible, plus I don't think I'm capable of succeeding in college, I'm think that I should just quit & start working, but I have a feeling I'm gonna regret it if I do that, so I feel I should stay in college & transfer, but i'm not so sure.

I don't care whether people say that if I transfer I could have 2 last good & fun years of college, but I don't give a **** about that, I wish I could have to full college experience that people straight out of high school that go straight to 4-year colleges, & don't take the community college route. But I know I won't have that experience since I didn't get good enough grades in high school, so I feel I just blew my chance for being more social.

All that partying and social stuff is secondary. You think you'll miss out on a couple of good years? Try missing out on 15 years of awesome dating because you can't afford a sushi dinner or a few drinks on you. Imagine how much your social life will suck when you try to talk to a woman 10 years from now and you drive the same car you have today.

College is about making yourself better. Giving you a future. You have decades to learn how to be social. Get off your asss and try, not to get a better social life but because you have your entire future in your hands, right now.

And of course you can succeed in college. I've known some complete idiots make it through. The difference is that they never gave up. Neither should you (not that you're an idiot, of course...)

I agree with Ralfcoder: you sound like you could benefit from counseling, though I think you also need someone who can give you a more accurate perspective on what "real" college life is like. For one thing, plenty of non-Greek-affiliated partying goes on, and if a geek like me got invites, I'm sure you'd be fine. If you have a concrete reason to believe that you wouldn't be comfortable with the culture at the schools you're considering right now, look elsewhere.

As far as the grade issue goes, a self-defeating attitude is going to cause you as many problems as anything in the classroom. That's not to say that believing you'll do well is enough by itself, either, but there's no shame in asking your professors for help or getting tutoring if that's what you need.

And hey, if you're really, really not ready, you can take some time off to work after finishing your two-year degree and come back when you have a real motivation to study and improve your career prospects. Just remember, the longer you wait, the less typical your college experience is going to be.

Your logic is faulty. You're saying that because you didn't enjoy 4 years od college, you can't enjoy any?
You can't do much about the past, but what you can do is have a say in how the future goes.
You've done things the smart way actually. If you've taken the gen ed classes at the community college, as long as you have a c in them, they transfer - well, the credits do but the grades don't impact your gpa.
This is your chance to do well in school, like a fresh start.
90% of life isn't about skill or natural talent, it's about attitude. Whether you think you CAN do something or you think you CAN'T, you're probably right!

The only good reason for you to transfer to a 4-year college from a community college is if the career choice you want requires more education than a 2-year program can give you.

Good Luck!!!

First of all - change your user name.

Second - go get evaluated for depression. I'm very serious about this - I'm no psychologist, and I don't have a medical background, but you sound like you have clinical depression to me. This CAN be treated, but only if it's diagnosed.

You sound like you're about 20 years old, give or take. You've got a huge life ahead of you. It can be exciting, rewarding, and very satisfying. Or it can be dull, drab, and drag out for eternity.

Which way your life goes is up to you. YOU have to take the steps towards an upbeat, positive life for it to come true. But you only have to sit back and moan about how awful your life is for it to stay that way. Which one would you prefer?
