I recently acquired @ least 5,000 baseball cards from friends who are moving. The oldest ones are 1984-1991. How do I put a value, if any, on these cards. Any sites to go to? I have no clue where to begin. Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.

Thank you Joey, I will try that first. Love the name, it's my grandson's name.

Thank you Dang. I didn't think they would be worth anything. I do, however, have one from 1950 that I personally kept for yrs.

They are all in perfect condition, in a segmented box. They may not be worth anything now, but in 20 yrs, who knows. Besides, I am a baseball fan. Most of these cards are not rookies. I follow baseball very closely. My favorite sport.

Beckett baseball mag is for sale at many super markets. When you obtain this mag please read thoroughly the page that explains the condition and how to see the condition of your cards. A lot depends on your condition of each individual card. If for some reason beckett is not available, you could buy the Tuff Stuff magazine, around $6. A lot depends on how the cards were stored, and where they were stored. If you obtained 5k I would think they are in a big white box, with a removeable top. This is called a monster box. Have fun good luck and remember, ANY price guide is just that a guide and the price in the book is not the actual price the card could be bought or sold for. The value of any card depends on the Market, just like the stock market.

Many lose value when players lose popularity and many more stagnate for years. Great example is the Dwight Gooden F Update rookie. It once brought in upwards of $250 on it's own in the northeast region. Now it can be had on Ebay for Under$40 and that is solely on it's scarcity as compared to other issues of the era. The same has happened to Rookies of Strawberry, Canseco, Mo Vaughn and the list keeps going. A card will only increase or hold value based on two things- Demand and supply. If demand is there the card will rise, if it is scarce regardless of the player it will rise. Check into the values of the 55 Bowman umpires (Tv set series). The umpires outpace players in many cases because kids trashed the ump cards regularly and made them scarce- It's not because Jim Hohochik was really that popular.

Make sure to get the "plus" edition which is $10, but has more thorough listings than the regular Beckett monthly editions. Also, just a heads up, baseball cards from those years are a dime a dozen so don't get your hopes up on how much they are worth.

Not sure if there are websites but one way would be to go to the store and buy a magazine called Beckett. It lists prices to baseball cards. Just make sure you get the baseball beckett and not another sports.

You can also go to Beckett.com, they have an online price guide that you can buy. If you want to know the individual values of each card it's best to get the guide, but if you just want to know what the enire lot is worth you can do that for free.

That was the era of serious overproduction. There are a few key cards in there -- mainly rookies of certain players -- that might command a little attention, but mainly you're looking at firestarter.

sorry to say it but chipmaker is right, 80's cards are junk except a few quality rookies. but if you want to find prices Beckett magazine or website is your best bet.
