South Korea in 1954. The host that year was Switzerland. South Korea lost 9-0 to Hungary and 7-0 to Turkey to go out in the first round.

The first Asian team to advance beyond the first round was North Korea which had a stellar performance at the 1966 World Cup in England.

I do not count Russia/USSR or Turkey as Asian countries since they are classified as European by FIFA.

>>Are you counting the Dutch East Indies in 1938?
