I've never been there but have met a few Canadians, and they were all friendly. Right now, Canada is the only foreign country I'd like to visit (for various reasons). I think you'd have a great time up there.

Amazing that people like you can still generalize about millions of people in ANY country. Still..........Toronto is the New York of Canada.....very cosmopolitan, very large, with all the usual plusses and minuses of large cities. Lots to see and do....it's on the North side of Lake Ontario....and hosts the Canadian National Exhibition which is almost over.....it's a bit prudish in the upper classes.....heavily Portugese and Chinese sections too......Montreal is FRENCH Canadian and VERY frenchy uppity......but good University town, lots of history.....and closer to Quebec City which is REALLY Canadian.....of course you could travel all across the 3000 miles of Canada to Vancouver with a town or two along the way....did I mention the Rocky Mountains????? Why not read up and look at pics and go and see that generalizations are STUPID.

Canada is beautiful. Don't just stay in the large cities, there are many things to see and do in the major cities; but wherever you are take time to see the countryside. Ours is a country of rich vegetation, lakes, rivers and water falls and to really know Canada you must venture off the tourist track. YES, we are friendly; humble and quietly boastful, but extremely welcoming to visitors from other countries. You will want to come back.

Yep, both of the cites that you mention are fantastic, as are the people, and as has already been said they are definitely not Americans. Canada reminds me of how the UK used to be back in the 50's when people were still polite, held doors open for you, said "good morning" to strangers, and all of the other little things that made life pleasant back then.

i may well be reluctant to pass to any united states of america that has a judicial device which would be so biased against foreigners. A lesser united states of america that mis-treats a British project may well be susceptible to diplomatic stress yet no help may well be imminent from the Blair government for a Brit in trouble with the U. S. government. One has purely to verify how the NatWest 3 have been surpassed over on the muse of a one sided extradition settlement.

I fell in love with Toronto many years ago.
Culturally diverse, people are friendly and I would have to describe it as a cleaner version of Boston, MA.
Very cosmopolitan.
Most people speak English there.

A lovely place. Canada is America with politeness and much less crime.
Warning: Canadians and Americans are as different as Belgians and Russians.
