Than deluding ourselves...by thinking that we are aware and intelligent?

Probably. Sometimes, when we weigh all the facts and think what could go wrong, and don't try, we miss out on so much. Many times, I have made the wrong choice, but I enjoyed doing it while it lasted, and would have never known if I could succeed or not had I not tried it. I hope this is clear what I am trying to say. I am not talking about having low morals, but trying new things-being brave. Best wishes in whatever you are trying to do at the moment. Grams

I don't think the options you've given allow for so many more actions or choices.
"Not knowing what we are doing"--can be intuitive, or serendipitous & there are any number of "better" or worse in them, depending on the outcome, & how it's perceived. Not all things require intellectual pondering.
In such cases, are we "deluding" ourselves, or simply doing what "feels" right for us? I can't imagine any way to define these "choices" as better or not; the conclusion (if any) is drawn by the individual.
It goes without saying that many choices/decisions in life require prior analysis, yet even then, we may be pleased, or not pleased with the outcome.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no.
But why are you involved in things you're not familiar with?
I think you're deluding yourself that you'd get a better than 50/50 outcome making a decision you know nothing about.

Believing that we are aware and intelligent seems like a more inspirational start off point than either of your suggestions.

For me, yes, most of the time. There are certain things that we just have to do. I've done things that given I could turn back time, I'd do it all over again although the result wasnt what I've expected.

Just sometimes, our hearts think better than our brains, dont you agree?

Our choices are no better or worse, but; our outcomes are more to our liking when we feel like we are in control of a situation.

Spontaneous right action is best... it comes without thinking, but belongs only to the pure soul.
