Can anyone explain why all other areas of the Madeleine site have been updated, but not the funds raised?

Honestly I think its delibrate they arent updating this figure any longer.

Maybe its for money laundering purposes (and before you shoot me down on this, then fine, have the McCanns open their books to the general public, and I will quieten down of the fund)

Bottom line, is no longer do we know what money is going out, we dont even know what money is going in.

Hell of a way to run a 'charity'.

Faith - Wrong! I am not complaining about them either raising or not raising funds. Im complaining about the transparency of what they are doing! They are not updating the figures and are you telling me that for the last 2 weeks, NO-ONE had donated. Not even a penny???

CT - Exactly thats why they set up a limited company in the first place, so they have exclusive use of the funds hence my use of quotes when I said it was a 'charity'.

They have set this fund up and not spent it the way the public who had donated to it, intended for it to be spent! Im pretty sure they didnt donate to it on the basis that a common lawyer wouldnt do for the McCanns. Oh not it has to be a QC! Do you know how much a QC costs?

And Ive NEVER read a headline that says 'Missing child discovered by QC', so how exactly is a QC helping to find Madeleine.

Maybe the figure is not going up anymore because no-one in their right mind would donate any more money to the McScamms!, its not helping find maddy and neither are they

think we all know how injustice works,
but i seriously hope said fund won't go on their defence lawyer, when ( hopefully, if ) they go on trial for neglect.
if they ever return the UK, they should be charged with that, just for starters.
not just so they pay for their rank stupidity, but to deter other parents from even thinking about doing the same thing.
they could be used as an example, since we the Public have been outraged the more we hear & understand about what happened the night Madeline disappeared.
i don't hate the mccanns but i definitely hate what the did!
any parent with an ounce of common sense would be & are upset.
this fund should go toward finding other missing children.
according to the local press, madeline's abduction is one of many in portugal. most down to family disputes. but there have been high profile ones that are very sinister.
hopefully the fund will do others some good.

First of all Dave, it is not a charity, it is a Limited Company by Guarantee. They was very cunning how they set that up without charity status, knowing full well that the public would of had a right to question where the money was going, if it had of been setup as a charity. The money from this company should be split up between different children's charities, the company has never done what it was setup for. It has never purported to do what they said it would do, and that was to help find Madeleine.

I agree that it is strange that it has not been updated for ages. I think it is because it has become a touchy subject. People are starting to ask questions about the fund. Hence why today Gerry made a point of saying that their housing is not coming out of the fund. I wonder what they are spending it on then - friends/families air tickets/accomm - huge wage bills for lawyers/pr companies etc maybe? What a waste of money! if thats the case. What about hiring private detectives to find their daughter??? I'd contribute to that but definitely not to lawyers fees etc.

In answer to the question. I too have been looking at the money and have noticed that the figure is not increasing. Maybe people have come to their senses and realised this is just a jolly for those disgusting parents and are not donating anymore...

Except to add that they weren't able to set it up as a charity cos the charities commission refused it on the grounds that it was not for the greater good - or something like that anyway.

Anyhoooooo, maybe they have not updated it cos they caught wind of people asking what the bloody hell the fund is for???? They made it look like a blue peter appeal having the running total on their website.

Don't fret dave, you will be able to see what they spent the cash on when their books are released to company house in 18 months time . . .

In England & Wales, registered charities are required to demonstrate public benefit. Because Madeleine’s Fund is focused on searching for one child, Madeleine McCann, it cannot register as a charity.

Its not been updated now for weeks. I think it could be one of many reasons. Dont forget Gerry probably thinks its none of our business, and now he has heard the bad press (which he says he hasnt read but we just know he has) he doesnt want anyone to realise just how much there is in it.

Another possibility is that the fund is growing embarrassingly slowly now, due to people changing their opinions, and he wont admit there is a dip in support publicly. He is sticking to the "minority" idea, for his critics. In public at least.

I know it might sound mean, but as soon as she went missing, I thought it was all about money and that when ehr parents have got enough, Maddy will mysteriously appear once more. But whatever, I just want her with someone who loves her and will not neglect her.
