There was a guy, who apparently isn't too bright and asked "Why do men marry men..I think it's wrong?". I'm gay and answered "Because they're being themselves. It's not hurting you. Live and let live." Then there was a guy who answered "It's an evolution thing. Decreases the population and makes more girls for the rest of us." I gave him a thumbs up because I thought it was pretty cool of him to say we've evolved, and put a positive spin for straight people's perspective of gays. I thought he was pretty cool and supportive. Then two people gave him a thumbs down. Did thy give him thumbs down because they didn't understand his answer (I did I misunderstand?), or did they just give a thumbs down because he sounded straight? Is that a good way to encourage support from outside our community?

I like how you put a positive spin on it, its always nice to know theyre ar epeople who still do that. but those people probably didnt like his answer and tooke it in the rude way, rather than turn it around like you did.

I don't get angry or fly into any kind of rage, but it is annoying when as you say, you give a straight answer and some bozos thumbs down it. When someone is definitely wrong, I try to not slam them but I believe they still get bent out of shape regardless. My experience has been that there are lots of people out there who don't understand the complexities of electricity and electrical systems, yet they have misconceptions and believe they know what they are talking about. When I correct someone like that, invariably I get thumbs down. As you get older Adam, you'll probably find that you don't get hacked off nearly as bad as when you're younger. I had a young chick pull right in front of me today and she never looked either way until she was in the middle of the intersection. Better late than never does not apply in those instances. It was no big deal because I saw her and I've learned to not trust anyone on the road. Going to work in the morning, it's amazing how many people I meet that are yakking on cell phones while coming to a stop, making a turn and looking both ways all at the same time. If I didn't ride so defensively, I would of had at least a half dozen wrecks this year.

I think people will give a thumbs down if they don't agree with what someone has said, or if it's extremely rude and unnecessary. I usually don't like giving a thumbs down and avoid doing so, but if someone is just plain rude, gay or straight, sometimes I will. I think, as I've said before, it's all part of the game. Not that our issues aren't important, but as this is a points system, people are vying for points all the time.

I do also think that if we met each other on the street, we wouldn't give each other a second thought and sometimes I'll do that with people on here. I'll read what they have to say and either agree or disagree and just go about my own business.

Different people have different view. According to my observe, some dirt joke and some open mind view will easily get a thumb down. Maybe most of the Yahoo Answer player are conservative.

Anyway, doesn't matter, I just give thumb down to the racist and discriminer. In addition, I also thumb down for the Catholic who think homosexual is a sin. Really a weird view.

I would totally give that a thumbs down because that is a male pig thing to say! "it decreases the population and makes more girls for the rest of us" sounds like a slam to us to me. But thats my take on it. It sounds like all straight men care about is how many women they can have to bang.

I think I would have still given him a thumbs down, because it's not about decreasing the population, but it is still cool that he didnt say anything rude. Its nice to know that there are people in this world who dont hate gay people, even if they dont exactly understand the lgbt community and how we are no different from aynone else.

Hey Mozartistic, I think you have a little talent there, and it's called optimism :) I'm sure that even if you think that a reply IS strange , that you'd wonder and search what the good meaning behind it could be. It's a standard talent - but still there are people that simply miss it. They think : not pro-gay the way I am, thus bad. Good luck to you!

I didn't see that person's answer in that question, I must have missed it.
I would have given a thumbs up. Like you I would have understood that answer the same way.

No, I don't thumbs down answers just because I think their from straight people. I don't give thumbs down just because I think they're religious people either. I consider the answer in it's entirety and it's relevance to the question.

Heck, someone gave me a thumbs down as well. I just said that it's fine that he has his opinion, but that he should know that others will disagree with him...and that others will disagree with him on many things.

Somehow someone felt my answer was bad too.

Oh well. Can't win them all.

Personally, if I think it's a good, honest or amusing answer, whether I agree with it or not, I'll give it a 'thumbs up'.
I only 'thumbs down' answers that are deliberately offensive, or don't address the question.

I don't do either for trolls; I just report them, and ignore them.

Its probably because someone just didnt like his answer. People give seemingly good answers thumbs down all the time. I think its to spoil their chance of getting a best answer & the 10 points.
