Words which for some stupid reason the average person objects to or takes offense at.

It is quite possible that the words in question just reminded them of things they didn't want to hear about. While modern society has become more accepting of the concepts behind them, the impact of the words themselves has remained intact over the ages.

It is just tradition now.

Swearwords are outward manifestation of some uncontainable and unstoppable internal combustion processes in the gut that are powerful enough to take a form of their own, that could take a person by storm and definitely the world around by surprise, which then often have potential of insinuating a brawl, or an unproposed and open-end wrestling contest. Swearwords add marvelously to the vocabulary extra spectacular flairs of expression, and, in general, they are wonderful examples of deep honesty and full clarification of a purpose in the head.

If you have seen a pressure cooker working then you would know that if people would not swear they would simply burn from inside out, going all discolored on the outside and squelchy in the inside, like a slow rotting of a banana in the heat of weather.

But lets be honest even to swearwords, for they deserve an admission from us that they are true hardy fellows. That exist in language despite being complete outcast; now decent television channel, radio broadcast, dictionary, domestically suited magazine, newspaper, or book would let them in, but the still exist. And where they reside to make they hard life a possibility, and to provide human beings experience of instant relief when it is needed most? They reside in human gut feelings of course, where else? Hurray! For our old friends, or nasty, enemies for they have live on. But what are the ******* swearwords? I won't tell you if you behave!

A profane or obscene expressions. This could usually be found in your answers from those who have no feelings for others. This swearwords are usually used by those who are insensitive towards the feeling of others. They don't care if you are insulted or not. These are the words that you don't expect it in this site but can be expected unexpectedly. So prepare to accept it with a strong emotion. Good luck and God bless.

"what are swearwords?"

Words that have been judged TABOO mostly by wowsers.
Ordinary people never cared - Wowsers gave taboo words the power that some still retain today.
The word cLunt without the L is still particularly disturbing to some ears whereas the word fLuck without the L is becoming less so.
I always say that a Real Lady doesn't know those words so can't be offended.

In the final analysis they are only words - it's the associations that have the power - isn't it strange that many sex words are taboo where as words of violence like bash or punch or stab or slash are all perfectly alright to say in public.
Makes one wonder about priorities, A?

Expressive words used out of ordinary context in order to shock the listener for dramatic effect.

The unacceptable and rude words of a language are known as the swear words , or bad language. They include the strongest and most offensive words; stronger than slang and colloquial language. They can add an accent to an event, that simple tone of voice would not acheive, or 'add insult to injury' when wanting to offend somebody.

Its interesting that every language in the wolrd has swear words, and English ones are rather tame compared to Spanish say, which can be very proufound.

I have included a link to a site which contains an international dictionary of swear words, Do not go there if you are easily offended!

Swearwords, as the name implies, are the same as oaths i.e. assertions which the speaker calls upon a higher authority to witness e.g. "I swear by almighty God that the evidence I give ..etc." To make such remarks falsely or as a joke was regarded as "taking the Lord's name in vain" and, consequently, blasphemy e.g. By God, By Christ etc. What we now refer to as swearwords- ****, **** etc. are simply examples of "coarse" or "obscene" language; according to your opinion. See the poetry of Chaucer for lots of interesting examples of both swearing and obscene language. It goes to show that "swearing" is not "the sign of a limited vocabulary" ....Shakespeare's plays are full of "effing and blinding" and he had a huge vocabulary! It's not big and it's not clever.... but it is fun.

1) Words that add emotional emphasis and frequently provoke an emotional response.

2) Prone to overuse

3) Versatile.
For example **** can be bad ("oh ****!")
good ("that stuff is the ****")
miscellaneous (lemme read that ****)
or simply descriptive (I feel 7 lbs lighter after that ****)

...or insulting ("7lbs lighter, eh? You must be so full of ****!)
