LOL, why get up and answer the knock. I live in an extremely Rural area and folks kep their doors unlocked, especially in the winter. Here in Northern MInnesota, we have extremely cold winters and if someone runns off the road into the ditch, they may walk for a few miles to find help. They will go right into a warm house and seek help or need to use the phone. It's considered courteous and kind to folks to accept folks in trouble openly into your home. I ve had this happen many times while I have lived here and have actually DONE that a few times, myself. I would think absolutely nothing if that happened at any time of day or night around here.

This is why when I'm alone I sleep with my bedroom door open.

But, if it was closed. I would jump out my bedroom window or phone police. When I'm alone I bring the cordless with me EVERY WEAR!

Thank god I've never had to live on my own. I have a Husband who protects me from the scary monsters.

There was this one time when he had to work nights, he went into work from 12am till 8am. I was in bed and I herd a big noise (like something got knocked over). I was so scared, about 20 min's later my husband woke up to go to work. I made him look all over the house to make sure nobody was inside. Then I sat on the couch the WHOLE night (I didn't get to bed till 11:00 so I didn't sleep at all yet). He called me ever few hours to make sure I was ok and I asked him to come home for his lunch break (normally he just stays at work when he works nights). Finally when he got home I was able to go to bed. The next day I found my hair dryer on the floor. Alone with the clip it was hanging on. It fell off the wall and that was the nose. Crazy huh??? lol

I would totally panic. My bedroom is on the third floor of our house so I couldn't go out a window. There is no phone in the room, so I couldn't call 911.

I would look for something sharp to stick in a groin or eye, take it into the little adjoining room, climb into the closet and hope the person gives up.

I live alone and I would open the door with the gun I keep on the nightstand and let the dogs loose who sleep in the bed with me. I would have called 911 first but just in case it took to long for them to get here. My dogs are trained to protect. I really doubt if that would happen I have intense security all thru my house.

Whenever my Hubby's gone, I actually sleep with the door closed and locked.

I'd grab the phone on the nightstand and call 911, grab either one of the swords, daggers or knives in the room and make my way to the window.

If I didn't have my dogs?

Pick up my phone, call 9-1-1, leave it open so they know I require help (make a couple extra key punches or something to let them know someone is there) then quietly brace door and wait.

I do live by myself, and if someone banged on my bedroom door, I'd be wonderin' how they got into my house...
Apart from my resident entity, who is not fussy what time he wants to make a noise, he has never used my bedroom...

*thinks about it*
well it would depend how the knock was...

-tiny little tapping/gentle rapping-
==open one eye slowly, get all the sleep induced lethargy out of my mind and body long enough to think properly, give the closed door a "huh? o.o" look and then slowly get up, throw clothes on and see who it is.

-banging-
==probably be annoyed, jump (or fall) out of bed and scramble to get clothes on and see what's so important that it warrents *banging* on my door at some unruly hour.

-secret spy knock-
==require the password too (which is 'duckies', by the way) and then get clothes on and let them in if they successfully gave said password.

-other-
==questionable. depends on the day/mood/other circumstances.

interesting question :)
