Example -

Me - 'I asked for a 12" pizza, not a 9"'.
Them - 'We don't sell 12" pizza's, only 9" or 6"'
Me - 'But it says 12" pizza here in your menu'
Them - 'That's a spelling mistake, it should say Saturday'

That's a genuine conversation by the way.

People often don't want to say they don't know or just want to answer something rather then just stare at you. A sales person will try to change the subject to get the sale and sometimes people are embarrassed, tired, distracted by a crisis or expect another idiot to insult them. Sometimes they know exactly why something needs to be so for a good reson, while an outsider only wants their own way and thinks clerks are dumb and don't know what they are doing and don't seem to know that clerk can't do or say anything a customer wants them to. It is a chance for us to take out our aggressiong and feel superior.. They say people have the emotional maturity of a two or three year old and are led more by emotions then reason and try to justify it as "logic". I know one thing, when I stopped judging, my IQ went up. Descriptive words are more accurate and scientific and they say you can be a genius by a few simple techniques like that. Einstein thought it strange he was considered a genius. It seems to be more a state of consciousness than anything else, a way of using the mind that we are just discovering. You can't think straight when your tired and actually work for a living. The brain isn't getting blood sugar and when the sugar is gone you have to keep working anyway for slave wages. In protest of the class discrimination some people will tell a customer they don't know where something is when they do and things like that. We should treat our servants well, they have a way of taking to violence anymore. And they feel perfectly justified.

Your obvioulsy a very patient feller. Mine would have started a rant and I would have walked out laughing which would have made the situation worse.

I do know what you mean though every tome I opened my mouth when having a convesation I think I must be speaking in a different language than everryone else as I just get blank stares when I ask for a 'Cod and Six'

constantly -I am a nurse and you should try dealing with some of the people that find their way to A and E at 3 in the morning! Speaking to managers can be a bit like that too...

I can certainly believe it. I had the following one at a grocery store one night:

Cashier: Your total's $4.05.
(hands her a $5 bill)
Me: Just a second, I think I've got a nickel.
(hands her a nickel)
Cashier: I don't know how much change I'm supposed to give you now.

And this one at a drive through:

Them: Welcome to Arby's, what can we get you tonight?
Me: I need a second to look...
Them: What kind of fries do you want with that?

And some of the conversations I have at work everyday certainly make me feel that I've gotten stupider just by hearing them.
