it could be hardware or software. What you are trying to install will almost certainly install drivers. Look into C:\windows\minidump and see if there are any files created around the time that you tried the install. These are dump files. If some are there - it may be a sign of an os-level error - likely caused by the s/w drivers you are installing. Otherwise, get somebody to help you trouble shoot h/w problems. However, if it ONLY happens when installing that software, my feeling is a crash being caused by the software.

IS it blue screening or is it just dying?

is the battery old...

if you can blow hard on the air fan area and see if a bunch of dust comes out...

you may also like to get an air can and clean it out.. it could be many issues.. I have an a2h that was overheating a lot --- so I eventually blew on the fan area and was encased in dust after cleaning it out real good the overheating issue was solved.

it might also be a virus --- or someone trying to prevent you from doing something as part of a hack. or latent code execution issue.

It could be related to your cdrom drive too.. perhaps that is the source of the power issue - when the cdrom spins up it causes a power surge.. no idea though.. dust is my first guess. virus is #2.

if youre real cheap and won't buy an aircan use your vacume hose if you got one

if it is HOT where you are - you may like to check your computer temperature settings... during install there may be more heat generation off the harddrive or cdrom etc.. and it may just nudge it over the top in an already hot or poorly ventilated area.

of course as suggested also check to see that your computer fan is still working.

What are you trying to install? Make sure you don't have your power settings set in a way to make the computer shut down by itself after a certain amount of time.

Also, if you have some type of anti-virus software like Norton it could cause this to happen.

Is it only during software installation? Either your CPU fan is failing or you have bad memory or flakey power supply. See if it's easy to get to your CPU fan and try it. Goodluck! I can help you more if you post model #.
