Check your owners manual, if you don't have one ask someone at a chevy dealer, some manual transmissions nowadays require ATF Yes, that's right! some newer transmissions (manual) require automatic trans fluid. You don't want to dump 80-90 in there if it takes ATF.

you can use several types:
for me i would choose between normal quality mineral oil or syntatic oil. the later is more expensive but better and longer life:
i recomend one of those two for u:
Shell MTX Fluid
Shell MTX Fluid is a fully formulated synchromesh transmission fluid (STF) for use in manual transaxle/transmissions. It offers excellent synchronizer performance, oxidation stability, yellow metal compatibility, and low temperature performance. This product will satisfactorily lubricate manual transaxles/manual transmission from –40°F to +300°F.
AMSOIL Synthetic Manual Transmission
AMSOIL Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube (MTG) is designed to meet the special requirements of certain manual transmissions and transaxles, such as the New Venture NV4500. It is designed to replace AMSOIL 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube (AGT) and provide improved internal component protection. These transmissions are cast iron and have exhaust pipes close to them, causing them to run hot. Increased operating temperatures can harden seals and cause oil leaks. In addition to lubricating gears, bearings and synchromesh systems, transmission oil must keep seals soft even when temperatures increase. The premium synthetic formulation of AMSOIL Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube is designed to specifically address the needs of these hot running transmissions.

it depends. . .
if you have the Borg Warner T-5 you need to use ATF, try Amsoil synthetic ATF: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1463115&page=StoreFront/atf
if you have the NV3500 you need manual synchromesh
transmission fluid : http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1463115&page=StoreFront/mtf
in neither case would a heavy gear oil be appropriate

being a 1991, I doubt seriously it would take ATF.
