Front load washers in my opinon are better than top load washers. They use less than half of the water of a top load washer. You need less detergent than a top loader since you have less water. As you can guess this makes them much more environmenttally friendly. In europe they don't even sell top load washers anymore because they don't have the water to waste like us. They are easier on your clothing since there is no aggitator. There is aggitation however, your clothes rub against eachother but it's not near as rough as a top load aggitator. Your clothes do come out cleaner. And as for adding garments once you start a load, my front loader allows this. You hit the pause button wait about 5-10 seconds to stop and unlock and throw in your garments. Also the front loaders are able to spin at much higher speeds, mine spins at 1200 rpm. This extracts more moisture from your clothing and saves you big bucks on drying. Because if you think about it that's where the real money is when washing your clothes. A regular top loader you mabe looking at 600-800 rpm.
The only disadvantage I may see is that the top loader does take longer to perform some wash cycles. The whitest white cycle on mine takes 1 hour 10 minutes to perform. Sanitary cyle is 1:55 minutes. But I find that a small price to pay....since you can just put it on normal which is a 40 min cycle so you can control the time if that is an issue. The only other reason I can see as a disadvantage is that they cost a good bit more than a top loader. Anyway I would definitely buy another again.

My last washing machine was a front loader. They are meant to be the best but I can honestly say I would never get one again. The advantages are you use less washing powder and less water than a top loader. You can also get one that is a dryer as well. The disadvantage is once you turn the cycle on, you can't open the door again until the load of washing is finished. This is why I wouldn't get one again because it was a real pain. That may not be an issue for you, but I was never able to chuck something in I forgot about, or open it to check on a certain garment. I was also concerned at the safety issue of this.

I purchased one and can honestly say that the ONLY disadvantage I've found is that the wash cycles are very long, well over an hour. You can use a shorter time cycle but your items will not be as clean...Mine does allow you to hit "pause" and add items or open the door after a cycle has begun, and in general the front-loaders are more gentle on your clothes. They use less water, and even the "HE" (high efficiency) detergent seems to last longer. It's a money saver in the long run, but the only draw back is your laundry day will be very long because of the lengthy wash cycles.

Front loading washers usually have a window so you can watch the laundry wash or watch your cat tumble around if you decide to put it in their.

I would think that they knot the clothes together on occasion. Now that is a real pain...
Cant add clothes once the cycle begins??? That would frustrate me to no end.

High efficiency, less water, less detergent, less energy. Holds more clothes, cleans better. I love my front loader.
