I caught a fish without using a hook.

I casted out and a fish started to tug, but it stopped after a few seconds.

Nothing happened for the next two minutes or so.

It finally started tugging again, but really weakly this time. I easily reeled him in, and when I held him over the water, the fishing line had wrapped around his side three times! I thought, "What the hell?"
The hook hadn't even punctured him, it dangled a few inches below the fish.

My dad suggested the fish got tangled when it was getting freaky with a lady fish.

The first time my dad took my sister and me fishing when the crappie were spawning. We caught tons of fish that day! I've caught a lot of fish since then, but that was still a heck of a fun trip. My sister always had to catch the biggest fish though.

Another time, one of my ex-girlfriends and I caught good-sized Northern Pike on almost every cast.

Then there was my first trip trout fishing by myself. It was April first, and I caught my limit before lunch. I called my mom and told her about it and that I was coming over. She thought it was an April Fools joke about catching my limit.

Well, I was only 14 years old and by myself on a half day fishing boat. The boat was fairly crowded with mostly adult men. I was the only teenager aboard. My Dad had given me a dollar to buy lunch with (enough back then in the 70's) But I decided to enter the jackpot, where whoever catches the largest fish wins all the money put into it.

So we got out to the fishing spot, and guys were hauling in good sized Yellowtail all around me. I was not having much luck, so I switch from live bait to a big white bone jig I had in my tackle box. I cast that out and no sooner did it hit the water, then my reel began to scream and my line was ripping out across the sea. I was being led all over the boat by whatever was on the end of my line! I was obviously irritating the other guys because I would be saying, "Excuse Me!" "Coming Through!" "Excuse Me!"

I fought that fish for a good 45 minutes, until finally I seen a flash of it in the water below...it seemed huge. I yelled out for the deck hand to bring the gaff, which he did, because I would need help lifting it aboard. Finally the deck hand gaffed it and brought it aboard, it was half as big as I was. And now all the irritated fishermen were looking at this huge Yellowtail the kid had caught.

I was exaughsted and took a break...keeping a close eye on the fish in my gunny sack, so big the tail was sticking out of it.
Then...I began to remember the dollar I had put in the jackpot.
I wondered if mine was the biggest fish?

Well, the boat was heading back, all lines were out of the water, the seagulls following us in. Then they held the contest.
Guys lined up with their catches, many were almost as big as mine. So I grabbed my fish and got in line. Finally I was up and I was up against a fish that looked about as big as mine...
but when they put mine up against it...there was no doubt about it, my fish was the biggest and I won the jackpot...
$49.00.

I gave the guy who helped me gaff the fish 3 dollars (big deal to me) and I was going home with a 28 pound Yellowtail and $46.00 in my pocket...not bad for a 14 year old kid!

When I was a kid my dad and I went to the river to hunt for arrowheads. The summer heat had dried up all most all of the water. There were little puddles with fish in them and I told my dad to make a spear out of a stick and stab a carp. He hit the water and the carp went to one side. In the middle was a huge catfish. After my dad beat the crap out of it, we got it out of the water and took it home. It was 4 and 1/2 feet long and weighed 56 lbs (after sitting in the back of a truck in 100 degree heat).

Yes, in July of last year...I was fishing at the lake & this guy and his wife was there with their baby and the cutest lab-mix puppy (golden yellow w/ white chest) I had ever seen! Before we left...they asked us if we wanted the puppy because they couldn't keep it at their apartment or their rent was gonna go up! He said if we didn't want it...he was just gonna leave it there! No way was I ever gonna allow that to happen! So needless to say...the only thing I caught that day was our sweet wonderful dog Twinkie! Best fishing trip I ever had! =D
