Every person has their own truth. Based on their life experience.

You learn.

Don't run the car past a quarter tank of gas....true or false?.....based on the car you drive.

Men rule the roost...true or false?.....based on the relationship between the two....

Mommies should stay home....true or false?...based on income and children's behaviors/medical status. (My neice was home schooled for years because of severe asthma and allergies.)

You have to learn to take circumstances into consideration:

Women should not wear men's clothes....t or f?
My autistic daughter won't wear...I say, Won't Wear anything restrictive, revealing, or of a material that makes her skin crawl...so she likes the guys pants and tee shirts....true or false?

We all go through periods of contemplation where we have to evaluate our beliefs or learned behaviors....

Women should wear dresses to work....until your skirt gets caught in the file cabinet...then common sense takes over....

There is only one steadfast rule, hon, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you..."

The rest is flying by the seat of your pants....uhmmm, skirt....

Very good question Sandy. I listen to what my heart and soul tell me is RIGHT. If one has been taught civics and knows right from wrong, who can look at a situation without bias, then you know the truth.

Truth only reveals itself when one gives up all preconceived ideas. ~ Shoseki

If you can face the ugly and stand by your ethics, you are being truthful.

The truth often is much harder to withstand because often it embraces unpopular current concepts. It also offers NO OUTS, and may only accept the occasional compromise due to the fact that the truth changes depending upon the side of the discussion you are on.

God offers to every mind its choice between truth and repose. Take which you please - you can never have both. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you mad. ~Aldous Huxley

Truth is rarely writ in ink; it lives in nature. ~Martin H. Fischer

I don't think there's a definitive answer to your question. Truth is subjective. People's environment, beliefs, values, morals, etc. help to define what Truth is. Because every person has had different life experiences and teachings, Truth is as different as the individual. It is up to the individual to define Truth for themselves.

There is the method of olden days. You tie a large boulder to the person's body and drop them in a deep lake. Truth swims up and floats while a lie lays at the bottom. They really did it this way!

Between two extremes, historically ,Truth has been found to be some where in between the two but always away from them.To get to it ,one has to go that proverbial Extra Mile.
