Why is it that some poster assume 'masculinity' is the beer swilling, fat loud obnoxious idiocy that a lot of men just happen to be and a lot of laddettes are emulating?
It is not like that at all.
Men have innate behavioural traits that stem from biology and psychological and emotional make up. These make up the traits of masculinity. (Toughness, strength, emotionally cool, need for competition, etc etc.)
Although these traits have been demonised in todays feminised society, men still have these traits. And in my opinion, 'real' men can express these traits in a positive way, strength, leadership, etc. without being overly obnoxious. These are the traits that I learned growing up as a boy and then matured in the Army.
These traditional masculine traits and behaviours, whilst being completely natural for a man and causing him to act in a completely different way to women (Yes, for all you politically correct idiots, men and women ARE different, get over it!) it does still not preclude him from acting in a chivalrous way towards women. In fact, chivalry (although a dying art now) is in my belief a central tenet to being a 'real' man. I grew up with the rules 'you can never hit a lady' and opening doors for them giving up my seat to a lady, etc. All this does not affect my ability to be strong, tough, emotionally detached, competitive, aggressive when needs be and all the other traits that are important and natural for men.
This is what it means to be a 'real man'.

Yes. Not in a fake macho man kind of way, but being genuinely brave, strong and confident. A proper gentleman.
Some men these days are so like women I feel like I might as well be a lesbian. A man who cares is one thing, a man who wears moisturiser and cries at Titanic is quite another.

And this is how Whispering Down The Lane was born (referencing answer above me!!).
I love a man who is not afraid to be ALL man. I am secure enough in my sense of equality that I can bow to my man and not fear losing my power. If anything, I gain more, because in balance to him, I become more feminine, and that really turns him on and makes him jello in the right places, and more man in the right places, too!
Give me a seemingly bad boy (one who is really good, but just appears rough around the edges) and I'll like it even more.

Definitely. I don't go for muscle men, that's turn off but I like men to look like men. These poncy long hair styles men wear the days make me laugh. You know that bloke in the Head and shoulders advert, if a bloke looking like that ever tried to ask me out I would laugh in his face!
I also like men to know about cars an DIY, i.e knows who to put up a shelf etc.
I wouldn't change my man for the world, well apart from his snoring!

I tend to like a man to be a leader, but considerate of the ladies, such as opening the door and stuff. In my opinion its more manly that way. I also like it when they eat a lot...show off how tough they are...are relaxed around others...
LOL I guess everybody has a different opinion on this though :)

The majority of women want their partner to be a lion in public and a pu.ssy behind closed doors. Couples should stop trying to modify each other; the whole point of a relationship is to appreciate the other person's individual aspects.

I don't know about more manly but I HATE it when a man cries! It's bad enough when another female cries but a man....? Forget about it!
BTW....I don't mean crying at your dad's funeral or the birth of your child. I mean crying at movies, at a sappy b/day card, after hitting your thumb with a hammer...That kind of stuff

I would but I'm biased as I prefer guys to look like guys, they don't have to don a macho pose, beer swilling, swearing, thuggish behaviour, but i would prefer someone like Russell Crowe, maybe he ain't everyone's cup of tea but at least he looks like a bloke, I'd pick him any day over the likes of Johnny Depp.

i like a man who physically is masculine, ie not a hulking physique or anything but who has masculine and not feminine gestures and who has a physical presence and confidence (not arrogance)
However i like a man to be sensitive, warm and considerate on the inside with a good heart.
