....and sending us into debt that we will never be able to repay, and refusing to secure our borders, while he is sending more troops all over the world to "defend our freedom"? I could go on and on, but I won't. Why do you continue to support him while he destroys you and me?

A fair number of Bush supporters wouldn't mind a fascist police state if the police were on their side. They have no concern for the rights of the accused because they are so smug that they will never be falsely accused. Others are willing to trade some freedom for security, naively thinking that it will be easy to restore freedom at some future time, or that the erosion of freedom will stop right now and never go further. Bush doesn't have to "get" these people to support him. For the most part they think he's a hero.
As for the debt, that's the primary weapon for government haters to shrink the government. Cut taxes and run up debt and then it's easier to get rid of government functions because "we can't afford that".

How did Hitler get people to support him...he plays on the fears and ignorance of the general population and offers them simple solutions to very complex issues. The public is able to latch onto these slogans which are backed up by big parades of flag waving and shows of patriotism. It makes them feel united and feel better about their condition even though nothing has changed or it has gotten worse. If you try to throw a wet blanket on their parade by explaining facts they label you as an enemy and boo you down. In this way the public itself continually prepectuates the power of the government and in our case the president

line frrom Joseph Goebbel Minister of Nazi Propaganda comes to mind ''tell the people they are under attack and they will support you''.well there was an attack but the rest could be fear mongering. is Bush still President was sure someone else woyuld be by now. another reason when two countries go to war each one tells the populace ''do not believe their lies only what we tell you is true''. so reinterpret that to mean ''don't believe their lies only our lies are true''. given the truth is the first casuelty of war it must have been killed or wounded many times througout history. The Truth should be given a Medal of Valour for conduct above and beyond duty in protection of people for centuries.

Bush supporters are for the most part uneducated when it comes to all of the things he's done. They look at they are told to think he's accomplished and figure that it makes up for the mess he's caused. This international crisis caused by Bush is played out to be a heroic and patriotic act of freeing a nation. Keep in mind he has lost many supporters because of his radical decisions and the few that remain loyal to him are making money or are simply uneducated, believing that any president of ours makes the right decisions.

Simple, I think, WE as "the other side" simply have to face the facts that it is how people in this country want it. That is the only answer there is. People in this country (USA) want to be "ruled". They want a government that is controled by big business. They want a government that does NOT care a thing about them as human beings. They want a government that would not spit in their mouth if they were on fire. Our government, and the politicans in charge, are an exact reflection of what people in the USA want. OTHERWISE they would not have continued to elect them for the past 30 years. IT's simple, in the USA, it is EXACTLY how the majority of the people want it.

"A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side." Aristotle - 343 B.C.

There are the richest 20% that have made out like fat rats under Republican rule. Add another 10% mislead or blinded by their faith and another 6% that are just too stupid to pay attention. Alls he really needs is the rich. He doesn't need or care about the rest.

It's very simple. It's called deception. The Bush administration uses the Orwellian concept of doublethink. Convince the people that bad is good, and vice versa, and you've got them.
darren m, that was actually Hermann Goering who said that one.

One word: "FEAR" - have you heard the word "terrorist" and "9-11" repeated over and over again to remind people to remain afraid of the next attack? Fear makes people give up their liberties for temporary safety.
"Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither" - Benjamin Franklin
