With torrents you can download practically anything.
A torrent is a small file that you download that directs you to something called a tracker. With a client (such as utorrent) you can connect to the tracker. This tracker in turn relays to you everyone else who is sharing the file(s) that you are looking for. You then download parts of the file from everyone else, and your client will put it all back together again. At the same time, you upload pieces of the file to other people.
The benifits of doing this is that there are no bandwidth or speed limitations. If you have a lot of people on a torrent (such as a new release of an anime episode), you could get over 1mb/s if you have a good connection. The downside is that if hardly anyone is sharing, you can't get a very good rate.
