Well, considering she's coming off a pregnancy and is on the wrong side of 30, I don't think she'll do too well. Think "Martina Hingis". She'll compete and not embarrass herself, but I don't see her staying with the other top players on the tour. She drank from the reinvigoration well once already and rode that thing to a #1 ranking and grand slam finals, but lightning does not strike twice. She'll play maybe another year or two, maybe win 1 or 2 tourneys, but that's it. She'll retire and wait for the Hall of Fame to call.

Wasn't Lindsay Davenport considering retirement before she started playing well again to gain number one ranking in the world and then decided to ride the tide of her then ranking. Is motherhood that invigorating that she has forgotten her state of mind at the time?
I hated to see her ranking drop from number one into oblivion when she left for child birth and all that. This time around she has to note that she needs the will power that she played 2005 Wimbledon finals to crack the top 10 ranking. Though the years are not in her favor but with her height, talent and those residual will power, she will crack the top 10 ranking and fade away again this time for good after one year.

Lindsay Davenport, I'm afraid, is going to crash and burn. She was playing very poorly her last year, and she has age working heavily against her (sorry Martina - Lindsay does NOT have your talent OR body). She's playing professional ball two months after a c-section - wow - pretty amazing. Her body wasn't in terrific shape pre-pregnancy - I just can't realistic see her being able to even remotely keep up now. Doubles is another story though - she may do well there, but singles - not a chance. Not in 2007. 1977 maybe. Not 2007.

It will hard for Davenport to make a come back. I believe she
will do OK and will make the top 20 as she has not gone for
too long. She can also get into top 10, but will need to see
how well she can compete.
But if she is dedicated and have confidence in herself, she can
do it, but getting #1 is very very difficult. Even Serena and
Venus will have hard time even coming close to top 3.

Davenport is 31 years old. Even Hingis come back to court and still cannot get good result.
I don't think that she can get a good result for coming back. I estimate that she will be kick out at the first round in US Open.

Hopefully she'll reign again; she's my favourite player, I hope she knocks Serena and Mauresmo off the top 5. She's such an amazing, consistent, fast tennis player, I can't wait to see her come back. Hopefully she'll wait at least another 3 years to even think about taking away the contraception!

I think it will be tough for her to make the top 10 again. With rising talent like Jankovic, Vaidisova, etc she has her work cut out for her.

wow. very good question. since she WAS such a good player, i think she'll still be good. not as good, but good. she probably lost a little bit of her touch. i'm guessing she'll make it into the top thiry by the middle of the year. but this question is very unpredictable, so i could be wrong.

I think she will enjoy tennis for the first time in her life regardless of what the media says about her.
