I know what you mean! We got ours at a garage sale...I guess it was something like 5 or 6 years old, but it still worked great. Still is in great condition too. The thing that I don't understand is winding it up is a lot cheaper than the battery swings and then also the fact that they are quicker to use...plus the batteries are very short lived.

Swings are now battery operated - wal mart usually has a good selection of baby type items at fairly decent prices
We took my niece there for her shopping needs the other day and found the swing for about 30 bucks, we got a walker for around 20 and diapers (pampers) really cheap.
Try going there and see if you can get what you need at the price you want.

I found a wound up swing at my cousins consignment shop someone was getting rid of it. It looked like it was in great shape and we put our 25 pound weight in it to make sure it was safe. I kept it, and our son seemed to like it better then the one we had that was battery operated had music and lights and the seat vibrated, we paid 250. For our second we are going with the one that has the AC option.

I was wondering why you would want a wind up one?! ! Then I saw the additional comments and saw they put you to sleep. We bought a Gerber one that is battery operated and it makes the ticking sound too. Crib mattresses are outrageous, who am I kidding everything for kids is outrageous and I have 4!

I'm just glad that gig is over for me. Been about three decades since we had a wind-up one. Course, that long ago we just used fig leaves for diapers. Actually used cloth type along with Pampers back then. Cloth ones make great polishing and cleaning cloths later.
Does anyone know how expensive it is helping to raise our grandson? ( my daughters boyfriend bought her a miniature daschound. Currently he is our only grand kid.)

Oh, I haven't seen one of those in years. Yeah, that would be hard to find. I liked the wind-up ones, too. Why bother mechanizing something that works perfectly well as it is? I guess they can charge more for the electronic ones...
Ebay has some, I guess they are still making those.

I never been much of a fan for those gadgets. Put the little one in a sling and carry him about in your daily goings. Good exercise for you and alot of contact for him. And the cosleeping debate is nothing more than a bunch of bollocks. Name another mammal that tosses their young ones into a nearby cave and I might change my mind.
