I live in Arkansas, so I don't know anything about beaches. I'll admit I've only been to one once (Galveston, but I couldn't swim cause the water was contaminated or something). Still, I don't get what the big draw of them is. Swimming pools are so much better because you have some privacy.

At the beach, everyone is staring at each other (either like a piece of meat if you're hot, or in disgust if you're ugly). I'm not in bad shape, but I sure don't want people staring at me. And I'm a guy. I especially wouldn't think women would.

So why are the beaches in places so crowded? Why do people plan vacations around the beach when they have a pool? I'm open to new ideas, but I totally don't get it any reason why anyone would. Swimming pools are quiet, and even if you can't get to a pool, a water park at least has water slides and stuff.

Anyone who can enlighten me on the greatness of the beach is quite welcome to do so. I would greatly appreciate it!

Well I live in Africa ( Angola ) and I love the beach !

( But pools are great too ! )

The ocean is a nice place to cool off ( where there isn't pollution ) , since most of the time it's sunny and it's very humid , the sands are a beautiful yellow/golden color , the waves are wonderful , the atmosphere is relaxing ( depending on the beach ) , the environment is just gorgeous , not to mention it's a a great place to socialize and just have fun and it's not very crowded ( well at least not in the weekends or when there's a holiday )

And you should stop worrying too much about what people are thinking about you , just '' ignore '' them , not in an oblivious way , just be yourself and have fun and by the way not all swimming pools are private , I'm currently going to a great facility and it's anything but private or quiet , people can see you everywhere ( except for the locker-rooms and the bathrooms )

I think you should come here to Africa , so that you could see it for yourself ( the beaches ) , and there's a lot of hot chicks prancing around , you'll love them , that is if you've got some jungle fever or if you're not in a relationship

Fun in the Sun. So many people like beaches because it's great family time, and it's free! I mean you get to go to a fun place and you don't have to pay. You can swim, play in the sand, or just get a tan.

I love the waves and the sound they make rolling in:) An to stare out as far as you can and only see water. That's pretty cool. There are boats, speed boats are cool cuz you go really fast over the water but you can slow down in a sail boat:) Were else do you go for sand and sea shells?

1) pools are, at one point or time, dead ended, you can only go so far in a space but the beach is almost unlimited!
2) surf's up dude, hello some of us like to surf or body surf
3) the pool people stair to if it's public.

personally, i think that a lake is better so yea.

People like it because they like going in the water, building sand castles, and burying people in the sand. Find a beach and ask people why they like the beach.

You know, when Frankie went to Hollywood... he said RELAX!!!

The beach is fun... you got the sand, the surf, plenty of betties running around. The occassional shark will make an appearance, but who cares? Especially with some half naked betties running around...

Maybe because it's relaxing. You can walk on the water in the morning, and feel the waves.
