listen to Tony Robbins tapes, and stare into the mirror and say,

"I'm good enough, smart enough, and gosh-darn it, people LIKE me!"

Faith and personal will. You can do things incredible that no one would believe if you believe that you can do it. I can turn on a light just by thinking about it. It happens because I believe I can do it. If you have doubt, you will fail.

No one thinks that they can make an object move, but I do. Therefore I can make that happen. The slightest doubt will not allow you to do this. You must know that you can do whatever it is that you wish, in order to make it happen.

People don't believe this, because they do not have the faith that it can happen. You would not believe things I have done simply because I believed I could do it. No doubt, no reservations and a complete knowledge that your mind can control things. This is what it takes and it is a gift; not something that you can play around with. The secret I have found is that I can help others with my gift; but not for myself.

Hmmm, sounds like an interesting question. I'm not really sure what you're getting at with your question. But let me make a stab at an answer.

I think there are different ways we can express our personal "power".

First I would say that the words we speak can either cause others harm or do tremendous good. There is tremendous power in the spoken word.

Second, we can also exert personal influence over others by the way we treat or mistreat them. A kind person is usually regarded as a positive role model. We all want to emulate someone who does good for others. For example mother Teresa did tremendous good for the poor of India. Or Martin Luther King Jr. did amazing good for black people by his leadership.

On the other hand we can exert tremendous negative influence over others by living selfishly or harming others. Hopefully you will choose to use your personal influence for doing good.

If you mean "personal power" in a spiritual sense, I would just say that you may want to consider the example of Jesus Christ. Think about the example he set. He was a tremendously powerful person spiritually because He was truly good in his essential nature. We in contrast to this are not in our nature essentially good (selfless) but essentially self-centered. When it comes down to it most people will try to preserve themselves. We are selfish by nature, even though we may do good things from time to time.

In my opinion the only way to truly be powerful in this sense is to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I have specific reasons for being a follower of Jesus that I would be glad to share with you. Really though, power is not the point of the Christian faith but it's about selfless love - giving of ourselves to benefit others. It is what we are called to. I think most poeple would agree that the more selfless love a person expresses the greater that person's influence in the world. Love is the supreme ethic, not power.
