I prefer Firefox for many reasons - it's up to date, security risks are quickly fixed, it's open to changes, it's license is very user-friendly.
All in all, the main reason I use Firefox is the add-ons: anyone can make an add-on that adds something to Firefox.
Adblock Plus blocks (you guessed it) ads,
Greasemonkey lets you change how sites behave through "scripts" (even combining info from different sites),
Stylish lets you reskin any site *and* Firefox itself.
Noscript is the only way I've found to block a security risk that comes with Javascript - XSS or cross site scripting. (It can get one site to send your password to another... and more).
Firefox lets *you* be in control - and that's a very good thing.

Anyone who considers IE7 to be better than Mozilla Firefox and has given each its fair chance needs to be shot. They're unreasonable fanboys whose genes need to be exterminated from the gene pool. Anyone with an objectional mind will love FIrefox for every thing it has, can do, and has the potential to do.
Please note that I'm not at all serious about the shooting thing, or the gene pool cleansing, but Firefox really is better than IE.

yes, no matter what anyone tells you, Mozilla and IE are not the same thing. There are many programs out there that are designed to work only with IE. The problem with IE is that it's so popular, that many viruses were designed for use with it. So, Firefox was invented to combat that. But, the sad truth is, Firefox is still the poor man's version of IE. It does most of what IE does, but not all. But, your IE (as happened to me) probably got bombarded with viruses, so it doesn't work. You have to either deal with Firefox's limits, or take your computer to someplace where they can whipe it clean of the viruses, and download the lates anti virus programs.
