Just format it. Opening BIOS menu (w/ Del or F2) has nothing to do with Windows. You can actually open BIOS even if there is no HDD present. So go ahead and change the boot sequence in BIOS.

Put the windows XP install disk into the drive and boot to it.

A menu will appear that shows you "Partitions"

Press D and delete all partitions then make one called C
(by pressing C)

Format that with NTFS on the next screen, (not the quick format)

If your windows XP disk will not do this, then you have purchased the wrong disk. (ak you have the full version, but need the upgrade version)

Another method of doing this is to go to bootdisk.com and download a program to create a boot floppy disk.

Boot to that disk and when the command line appears type:
FDISK

it will run a program that will allow you to view and delete partitions.
Select the last partition and delete it.
Keep doing that till all partitions are gone.

Then boot to the winXP disk

If for some reason the XP disk won't boot on it's own,(Win98, and WinMe had a quirk about this, security thing), you're right, you'll have to change the boot order by getting into the BIOS Setup Utility. Try pressing F1 or Delete, to enter it. You may want to peruse Computerhope for more keys used to enter BIOS...........

You should be able to just put new OS/WXP CD into drive and follow instructions, if it does not open, contact Microsoft customer support and ask then to guide you through installation. After installing set to receive automatic updates.
http://support.microsoft.com
To open CD you can go to my computer and right click on CD drive and choose open.
Hope this helps
