The type that messes up the insects' nervous system.. like Raid. How do they work? I know the insecticide interferes with the signals in the insects' body and the insect will have trouble percieving and manuvering, but how does that kill them?

Sorry Aleck.. this is not really helpful at all. I asked for why 'pesticides' kill insects by messing with their nervous system, specifically. Not how a million different pesticides work on a million different pests.

HI, I hope you have a strong stomach this can be gruesome....There are several things that Can be used to kill insects not only insecticides.
There are 2 types insecticides.
1. The non organophosphate ones which block up the air pores on the surface of the insect so it can't breath! The dusts and course sprays, some are persistent in the soil and kill every thing time and time again eg Derris dust.
2. The organophosphate ones which gets into the nerves and stop the production of the chemical in the synaptic gaps. Without these the impulse which moves along the nerve can't be regulated and the nerve becomes over loaded. The animal becomes paralysed, including its breathing. It dies. eg. DDT. This particular one is persistent and will be concentrated in the food chain. These food chains include the human food chain. It has the same effect on us as it does on the insects so don't ever think of using it. Agent orange is another type of herbicide (plant defoliant) which will defoliate the trees, starve the insects but will damage us genetically if it gets into our food chain.

specially Raid brand has a really good attractant bait to the poison that is why it is good however the attractant last longer than the poison and after there is no more poison the attractant element still pulls insects in creating a vicious cycle to keep on using it. the way it acts on the nervous system in specifically on the autonomic nervous system, others that contain cybermytrin have a growth inhibitor that keeps half of the insect from maturing therefore it cannot reproduce and dies alone. this is the best option.

You know, there are many type of brands of insecticides on the market. Heres what I do. If I want to kill ants, I buy an ant killer. Who cares how it kills them, because I have a lot more to think about in life than to worry about how ant killer kills ants.
