Today, on my way driving into town, I hit a ... butterfly. The poor defenseless thing, he didn't have a chance. I am so remorseful. Please cheer me up!

Its a butterfly, the thing about bugs and other lower life forms like that are that they are not "self-conscious". That doesn't mean its very humble, that means it didn't know it was alive. I can also guarantee you that there are no orphaned baby butterflies anywhere or an anxious Mrs. because it was a butterfly, it didn't have any of that. Also, it wasn't on any great quest or adventure, it was a butterfly, it was probably looking for a flower but was too dumb to know that roads exist.

I know you're a caring person about wildlife, etc, but don't make yourself miserable for you didn't mean to hit the butterfly, she was suicidal herself(butterfly),it's not your fault. You're lucky at least you didn't hit a human being which will make feel for-ever guilty.I like butterflies myself, they are free & colorful to watch but there's more coming out of the cocoon to replace her(butterfly)cheer up & forget about it & move on!

You are on the higher level of the food chain. The butterfly has a much shorter lifespan. You probably wouldn't have cared if it died of old age. Adopt a caterpiller. Or you can flay yourself 25 times. Happy?

I'm sure he didn't feel a thing. It could have been something bigger that you hit, like a dog or cat. You will forget about this soon enough. There are more butterflies where he came from.

I agree with you I would feel bad if I hit a butterfly too but I wouldn't worry that much about it because what really could you do?
