Greetings! Somewhere, many years ago (but still in my lifetime), the Dallas Cowboys were called "America's team", and I suppose it will always remain it's moniker.

I have also heard the Cowboys get called "God's Team" when one season they won a chunk of their games on either a missed ref call or some absolute last second freak play that fell their way.

I also distinctly remember them being called "America's Most Wanted" when it was popular for the players to act like criminals.

But yes, I suppose the nickname "America's team" will always be on the Cowboys, for better or worse. Take care.

there is a reason nfl films called them america's team, and still does, (not cowboy fans as some people have suggested) watch Dallas Cowboys: The Complete History of America's Team 1960-2003. they are still one of the highest rated teams in the nfl when on monday or sunday night, they have 4 of the 5 highest rated super bowls, you either love them or hate them(have you noticed all the cowboy bashing in this section?), a lot of americans dont care about the bears or colts or bills or most teams other than there favorite. cowboys, yankees, lakers all either loved or hated and that is why they are all america's teams

Oh really? The Cowboys are "America's Team"? I disagree, and I'm sure a lot of people outside of Dallas disagree as well.

I am with Erick, I never considered them America's team. I have always considered my Redskins to be America's team...as unpopular an opinion as that may be.

I have been wondering for quite a few years now, why do I have to learn everything about the Cowboys on every sports network, when they have not really been in contention for 10 years?

I don't much care to hear another story about Romo or TO.

The Cowboys are the Media's mistress for some reason. They love bragging about them, even if they are not that great.

Well if your uncle goes for the Bears then he is smart, now are the Cowboys " America's Team", no they are not. All because our bad president is from Texas doesn't make Dallas "America's Team". Heck, Bush came from Houston

back in the glory days...the name was given by Bob Ryan of NFL Films based on the wide spread fanbase of the 70's. The 90's brought back a resurgence of this nickname, as you always have "fans" that will jump on the bandwagon of really good teams.

but to answer your question: only cowboys fans will continue to tout the term "America's Team", a moniker given by one man in the title of a highlight film. So just because one man declared them america's team, it has been so ever since. Mr. Bob Ryan must feel really good to have that much power over such a intellectually superior group of people as the Cowboy Faithful!

They are. People either love 'em or hate 'em. There's no gray area. The Cowboy fan base is coast to coast and they are the most recognized NFL team worldwide!

People within fifteen mile radius of Dallas. In fact they never were America's team. Just overblown hype from the Cowbillies.

They always have been Americas team. They always will be Americas Team. They have been to the Super Bowl more than any team and they sell more merchandise and tickets and jerseys than any team in the league.
