The ironic thing is that Libertarianism is more liberal and more conservative than the people who call themselves liberals or conservatives. Libertarianism is the name that true liberalism (the ideology of John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, and Frederic Bastiat) is currently known by. It is also more conservative than today's conservatives (at least in America) because America was founded mostly by Libertarians (Alexander Hamilton and John Adams were Monarchists, George Washington and James Madison were Nationalists, but the Jeffersonians wrote the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and prevented Hamilton from achieving his desired big government at the Constitutional Convention and they were elected in 1800, but the Supreme Court and crooked presidents such as Lincoln, the Roosevelts, Wilson, LBJ, Nixon, Clinton, and the Bushes created the massive government of today).

So you're automatically assuming that I, as a Libertarian, have no idea what my party stands for. Nice. I've been a conservative Libertarian for years - I'm very familiar with my own ideology, thanks anyway.

It's been proven over and over that you can't legislate morality. I think we should legalize drugs, tax the hell out of them, and regulate them. I'd sure as hell prefer to know if my bus driver is a heroin junkie, thanks all the same. Prostitution is another - legalize it, regulate it - give those women some protection, for God's sake. It's the "world's oldest profession" - not going anywhere anytime soon. Yeah, legalizing drugs and prostitution is "ultra ultra" conservative. Amazing.

This "question" is wonderful example of why I don't like the left at all. That oh-so-famous "tolerance" only applies to your own ideology.

That is because even Libertarians know liberalism is a bad way to go. But they are for the rights of everyone. So if someone decides it is their right to ignore school and completely waste those years, then it is their right to live a life of poverty and in a slummy city. It is someone's right to own their personal property as in housing, luxury, and anything else they can afford and keep it for themselves because they gave themselves the right to make it big and make money.

They are against the government saying what should be done regarding behind closed door regarding consensual adult, hence the adult, sex. Since some politicians feel the need to make everything illegal that is not the natural way. They are against the government saying there is equality so because of this we should give up what we earn because someone else can't afford it and is jealous over it.

So yes, they are a little bit conservative, but that is only because liberalism is a downfall of capitalism and in favor of communism. Look at the politicians that will be considering what is "equal" and look at what they will be living in. You think a liberal like Edwards is going to give up his money and mansion in Connecticut? He has the biggest house in that state! You think Hillary is going to give up her millions and luxury lifestyle to be a "equal" like the rest of us?

That is what makes this country great! The fact if you stay in school and actually learn something, get a high school degree, go to college and then getting into a job that pays well and allows you to make something of yourself. Only the poor hates it because they are jealous and want it, and if they can't have it, well, take it away and make everyone else suffer because they are uneducated simpletons!

If you want communism then stay liberal. But think about what I said regarding the equality bit! Do you think those liberal politicians who "stand up" for the poor are going to make themselves equal to us?

all of us know that democrats and republicans are distinctive facets to the right comparable coin, massive government left wing socialists. Libertarians are the genuine constitutional conservatives.

Yup. Good summary.

The Republicans used to be the conservatives, but no longer. There's really no difference between the two major parties - they just want to take your money and spend it in different ways.

Or--to put it more succinctly--the political "libertarians" these days are just neocons in sheep's clothing!

BTW--that (as a political ideology prevalent today) is NOT libertarian philosophy, which is far more nuanced--and balanced.
