Israel is practically a US military base. it is an extension of the pentagon system. the Israeli lobby AIPAC is very powerful. as far as how wise it is it depends on what you mean by wise. if you are going for sheer military dominance and land grabbing then it would be wise. if your concerned about human rights and violence then no it isn't. Israel is one of the leading human rights violators and also the top recipient of US foreign aid and yes there is a distinct correlation between the two.

We give and they take. At one time, Israel was a testing ground for our fighter aircraft against the Russian MIGs. Now that the Cold War is over, that doesn't seem to be important, but there are over 200 Jewish-interest lobby groups in Washington, D.C. that, if counted as a single lobby, would be the largest special interest - they remain small so as to not attract attention. How would it look if they were larger than the AARP, the AMA, the NAACP, or the NRA? People might get upset. Israel is, and has been since its inception, dependent upon funding by the U.S. government (and of course, the taxpayers). I don't think it's been wise at all - we should make the moderate Arab states our principal allies in the Middle East - but that's not likely to happen...

As for what the relationship between the United States and Israel. I guess the way to describe it is as a parent-child relationship with the US as the parent and Israel as the child.
The United States is not giving Israel money for its military. It is selling them weapons, and making arms contracts. While Israel dose get aid people seem to look over facts like Israel is required to buy its ammunition from American companies.
So yes the US economy benefits from this.
As for if it is a wise thing, maybe not, but the US government has a history over the last 50 years of interfering in other peoples affairs when it has no business to do so.
The isolationist philosophies of Washington and Jefferson have long been forgotten.

Israel is the right hand of the united states and has one of the most effective military's in the world, which we funded. if there is a conflict which we cannot openly get involved in we tell are right hand to swing. also, weapons developed by the u.s. that are how we say overkill and against nato policy, switch hands and are given to a military that is not afraid to use them. they are necessary and like i said have one of the best militarys in the world.

Israel is the only truly friendly nation the u.s. has in the middle east. You would probably be surprised at how many products you buy that come from Israel, and we have all benefited from their technology. Especially in horticulture. They have amazingly been able to grow crops in the desert.
Unfortunately, Israel has the worst neighbors on the planet. They are surrounded by terrorists that want their land. In my opinion, we are better off helping Israel than letting the Muslims occupy it. I mean really, the Palestinians are no better than Iran, Lebanon, or Sudan.

We send cash. They spend cash back in the form of military purchases. AIPAC oversees the operation and the US government collects the cash from taxpayers.
