boo killed ewell protecting the children. he would not have charges pressed, but would become an instant "hero" boo radley probably could not handle being put into the spotlight. he was a shy person (with a problem) who would not like the attention that "being a hero" would bring. like scout says, it would be sort of like "killing a mockingbird"

Atticus and Sherrif Tate decide to cover up Bob Ewell's death (at the hands of Boo). To protect Boo, who saved Jem and Scout from Mr. Ewell.
