1) For the first question, you can write a formula. The question is 120 is what percent of 80, so:

(80 * x)/100 = 120

x/100 is a percent, because all percents, such as a%, is equal to a/100. Now multiply by 100 on both sides:

(80 * x)/100 = 120
= (80 * x)/100 * 100 = 120 * 100
= 80x = 12000

Finally, divide by 80 on both sides to find x:

80x = 12000
= 80x/80 = 12000
= x = 150

This is the answer: 150%.

For the second question, represent one number as x and the other as y. Now write two equations from the clues given. Because the sum of the two numbers is 20, this is the first equation:

x + y = 20

Next, one number is twice the other, so:

y = 2x

After writing these equations, substitute the second equation into the first:

x + y = 20
= x + (2x) = 20

Combine like terms:

x + (2x) = 20
= 3x = 20

Finally, divide by 3 to obtain the value of x:

3x = 20
= 3x/3 = 20/3
= x = 6 2/3

This is the smaller number, and your answer: 6 2/3.

Hope this helps!

80 is 100% of 80. 80/80 = 1 = 100%. So 120/80 = 3/2= 1 1/2 = 150%. That's your answer. 2nd question: 20/3= 6 2/3. 6 2/3 times two is 13 1/3. 6 2/3 plus 13 1/3 is 20 so d. is the correct answer.

1. 120 is what percent of 80?
120 / 80 = 1.5

Answer: 150%

2. What is the smaller no.?

Let x = smaller no.; 2x = bigger no.

Equation:
x + 2x = 20
3x = 20
x = 20 / 3

Answer: 20/3 or 6 2/3 is the smaller no. or letter d from among the choices of possible answers.

Proof:
(6 2/3) + 2(6 2/3) = 20
(6 2/3) + (13 1/3) = 20
20 = 20

1. 120/80 = x/100

solving for x yields x = 150

2. 2x + x = 20, x = 20/3.

1. 120/80 x 100% = 150%

2. x + y = 20
y = 2x
x + 2x = 20
3x = 20
x = 20/3

Ans is (d)

to find this you gat to divide 120 by 80
ie 120/80 =1.5
so 120 is 1.5% of 80.
end of question 1
No 2 question
let the smaller no=a,
let the larger no =b,but since the larger no is 2x the smaller
so b=2a
and the equ=a+2a=20
3a=20
a=20/3.ans.......so option (d).
