I actually grew tired of the conservative rhetoric and liberal fiscal policy shortly after the "Republican Revolution" of 1994. My discontent grew as I watched them cry and moan about not having a veto-proof majority in Congress, as if it were an excuse for their lack of leadership (sound familiar?). I cast a protest vote for Harry Browne in 2000, and officially joined the Libertarian party after the passage of the unPatriot-ic Act. Everything they've done since then has only reinforced my belief that there is no such thing as a fiscal conservative in DC. And since everybody's response to every problem in existence is simply more government, well, I don't see myself turning back any time soon. Give me the old republicans that stood for small government, fiscal conservatism, and freedom. Oh wait, they don't exist anymore. Thank God for the Libertarians, it's the last best hope for anyone that just wants to be left alone.

A massive and unrealistic disconnect from the people they were supposed to be representing.

When drug companies matter more than the people they're robbing with their prices, when oil producers matter more than the people paying outrageous prices, when middle class workers can't afford to keep their homes because the banks got lazy and greedy.

All these and more are reasons enough to send a message to the candidates. Get a clue about what matters and fast! The disconnect will be final once they are voted out of office.

back in 1992, i moved to Arizona. The then governor was a Republican and had been a real estate developer. having had plenty of experience already with slimy real estate developers whose projects tanked, i promptly registered Democrat.

of course, the day after he was out of office, i re-registered as a Republican and have been a member ever since.

I left when they kept getting caught with child pornography and pedophile cases. I do not like what they stand for now, and the war in Iraq.
Independent or Democrat ticket for me.

They grew tired of being misrepresented by the neo-cons. The party has been betrayed and the neo-cons are being left to fend for themselves.
