The rake just keeps going back and forth and wont stop unless I turn the power off, but I shouldn't have to do that.

sounds like a micro switch is bad, usualy the switches are sealed into the unit, if you can locate it it can be replaced, you can get them at a radio shack, or hardware

Mine only does that when it is stuck and unable to complete it's cycle. Mine is a couple of years old so it may not be the same model as yours. I have a little brush and dust pan I only use for the litter box area. I brush out the rails that the rake travels on and make sure there are no obstructions.

replace the switch
