Are physically active people mostly extroverts or introverts?
To test this what research design would you use? Experiment? Correlational study? Descriptive? Survey? Case study? etc
And what data collection method would you use?
Thanks

We have to come up with our own question on a variety of topics and explain how we would go about testing it

Ok: The question you are studying is are physicallay attive people mostly extroverts or introverts.

I would use a correlational study.

I would interview about 100 people at gyms, jogging, places like that.

Data collection method is interview.
with you recording answers.

ask how many hours a week they exercise.
i would use Jung's definition on introvert/extrovert --
not asking the subjects to self-define (which introduces subjectivity.) Jung's definition:
An introvert loses energy around other people.
An extrovert gains energy around other people.

that means you only need about 3 sentences ( 2 questions)
from you for each subject.

If the data looks like it is a normal distribution, you can use the correlation coefficient r test.
If it does not look like a normal distribution, you use rho, instead.

I'm weak on research design, but I will say this.

The professor is not searching for an answer to the question (physical activity level does or does not correlate with sociability). The professor is asking HOW you would go about coming up with a likely answer.

Get ahold of the textbook and look up each of the types of designs you mentioned. Find out what they mean.

Think about reliability. Simply asking someone if they're an introvert vs. extrovert might not yield reliable answers. It's a subjective self-assessment and, for example, people might not want to admit they're introverted. People might also over-report their physical activity levels. Who knows. This leads me to think a survey type design might not be appropriate. You need a data collection method that will inevitably be in the form of a questionnaire, but it will need to be a reliable measure. It would have to ask a number of objective questions (i.e. Approximately what percent of the time do you strike up a first conversation?), rather than subjective (Are you an introvert?).

Experiment doesn't make much sense either, however, because the question is about people's daily habits and social tendencies, and I can't imagine how you would find good indicators by fabricating a scenario. Make people exercise, and then watch how gregarious they become? I'm not so sure.

Unless someone "smarter" comes in and hands you the answer, you need to consult the text on this. Stay up all night if you must. You know who to blame.

Introversion and extroversion are personality traits that may be better understood as "from where the individual draws his or her energy." They are not the difference between 'shy' and 'sociable.' A person can be quite physically active and also heavily introverted. You would do well with a survey that explicates what SORT of physical activity your subjects prefer; i.e., account for lone joggers and yoga enthusiasts, then team players or even people who play "party games." You can correlate one group to another, or to several others, if you can provide some indication of what sort of statistical formulas you intend to use. Failing knowledge of those, don't go there.

Obviously, you've already been dunned for leaving this to the last minute, but it remains important for you to understand and define your terms for any paper you wish to write (and don't forget that annoying APA format). You should also create a hypothesis, as suggested by the survey, to be proven or disproven by its results (the data, which are coded from your questionnaire). You do not have time to conceive a "true experiment," and while case studies may certainly be used (and referenced properly) to back up certain portions of your paper, unless their participants are available to be interviewed, then you do not want to go into meta-analysis at four in the morning. Good luck.

Psychology. First, find the definition between extroverts and introverts. Extroverts are the life of the party, Introverts are not and completely content staying at home and a bit anti social, meaning they keep to themselves. Case study? Perhaps use celebrities, for an example. Angelina Jolie is an introvert, and Paris Hilton is an extrovert. The more I type and try to explain to you, the more I am thinking, DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK!!!

first you have to define what physically attractive is (symmetry of physical features seems determine that as found by previous studies for lovers preference). then (if writing a paper) define introvert and extrovert and the behaviors that are associated with them. then get about 100 or so of those people that fall in a defined attractive rating or level to take a personality test. have about the same number of randomly chosen people (people that are not just in the "attractive" pile) to take the personality test as well and then look at the results for both and analyze the data.

if it's just questions then it's the hypothesis and related questions such as what is physically attractiveness, what are the behaviors that extroverts and introverts do, things you need to know in order to do the experiment. basically you're coorelating behavior with appearance, so it's a coorelation study.

data collection is via survey as i described above, the personality test for the subjects ( your control and experimental group).

Since your report is due tomorrow.......You obviously need to get on the internet and do case studies..or if your instructor is not going to ask for solid proof of your final, wing it and say you did surveys....Say you went to a gym or a sports event and interviewed individuals. Just my opinion but yes, they are more extroverted just by the fact that they are out there trying to improve themselves. Which means they are interested in what others think and they are confident enough to care about their health.............

I would do an experiment! Go up to people walking around lakes or gyms and ask men and women. Tell them first that you are doing an experiment and you want to find out your question and ask them why they fell that way. Go by race, culture, gender, age, etc.

It's been a while since I've studied psychology, so I don't remember the details, but they're definitely extroverts.

My opinion is EXTROVERTS.

Survey would be the method. In person or Answers.

Hey, run along side of a jogger, and see their response!
