It was as thick and long as my middle finger, with TONS of legs. My friend screamed in the kitchen, and sure enough, there it was, lingering between two tomatoes. I moved one of the tomatoes and it scuttled off, and now we're unsure of it's whereabouts.

WHAT THE HELL IS IT?

Could have been a house centipede.
Take a look. It seems to get that reaction.

Sounds like a centipede or millipede, usually dark brown or almost shiny black in color. You said it was between two tomatoes, did those tomatoes come directly from a home garden, if so we usually call them tomato bugs, but they are not a bug at all more like a big caterpillar, they are harmless but love to eat the leaves of a tomato plant so sometimes they make it in the house with garden tomatoes.
