Any idea what is causing this error..not sure which version of windows is installed. Its a 130mhz processor so its likely 95 or 98?

Boot sector of HDD could be damaged or corrupt.

This is just a shot in the dark but here goes. Do you have an older computer with an A: floppy disc drive. If a diskette were left in the drive it could cause an error. This is because older computers were programmed to look for a bootable disc in the A: drive prior to booting from the hard drive C: This was so that if the hard drive failed you would have a way to boot up the computer from a "system" disc. Now that I think about it, I think Windows will still do this in current versions.

Check the following:
IDE cable - make sure it is plug all the way in and in good condition.

Hard drive jumper location - if your pc only has one hard drive and no cdrom drive, set the jumper to master.

Hard drive health - get software like pc doctor to scan the harddrive.
