It depends on what the divorce decree says. If your child is disabled and unable to get social security income, then you may wind up paying for the rest of their life. The divorce decree my mother and father agreed to is that as long as we were in school, highschool or college, then my father had to pay child support, or when we were 18 and not enrolled in school.
Check the law written for your divorce, it's called a decree.

So far I see a common miscomception being followed in every one of your answers so far. Child support DOES NOT automatically stop at the age of 18 unless the divorce papers state exactly that. If your child does not attend college, then you must return to court at the time that the child turns 18 to legally have it stopped in Indiana. I would suspect that allot of states are alike in this manner. I was always under the impression that it stopped at 18 as well. My child moved back with me once he turned 16 so I stopped the payments, not knowing that I would have to go to court for this. My child was still living with me at age 20 when I learned of this law. At this time, I (and my son) went to court with an attorney and guess what? I was on the hook for the last 4 years of child support to my ex! So I payed the b i t c h while she was laughing in my face. After several months of yet more harrasment from this woman, I decided to try to take her to court and fight the before mentioned mess. At THAT time I was informed that I only had 6 months after the verdict to fight it. It was now 6 1/2 months later and the woman again got another laugh. My advice to you is to contact an attorney asap and find out the real deal in your home state. Now the end of my story? A few months later, my ex was found to be in ownership of a meth lab very close to a school. (I left her years before because of drugs) I now am the one laughing yet today as she is STILL behind bars. Now don't think that I'm still mad at her, as I'm not. I even still send her a letter each year on her birthday simply stating.....
Happy Birthday! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha !

18 years old or untill that years end of highschool! if your children turn 18 before they are done with their senior year you will pay untill they are done. Even in some states you still have to pay child support even if you sign away your rights! So your gonna be paying no matter what untill then!
