A dumb terminal is just that -- a terminal that interfaces with a real UNIX computer (serveral terminals to the computer) to accomplish a task (typically database access)

a dumb terminal will not have a disk. Only a dedicated processor to render the ascii characters that arrive on the serial port onto a CRT.

To get an idea: select Hyperterminal from accessories - communications in windows.

It is possible to do have dumb-terminal-like functionality over telnet (included in windows) even though telnet connects over tcp/ip instead of a serial connection.

Normally a dumb terminal does not have a cpu or much memory. It is just a terminal, like a computer monitor, probably attached to the unix box via a cable, probably serial
