I just bought new burner for my grill, but at the connection from the nozzle, behind the temperature knob, there is a huge gap, I suppose to let air in and mix with the gas on its way to the burner. It looks odd though; its such a big hole in the metal hose... won't the pressurized gas just leak out into the air when I light it up? It looks like my grill is about to become and an incendiary bomb.

look at it closley, there should be a cover plate over the Hole, that can be adjusted , this is the air mixture part of the burner, it allows air to mix with the gas, and burn, have you lit the grill ? does it burn blue./green with a ting of yellow at the top of the flame,
thats normal, the gas is under pressure, so it will flow into the burner tube, not just blow out .

and what did it look like before? is there i chance it not the right replacement part... so many grills be hard to say.. but if you dont trust it try taking it back a part and lay them down side by side or replace the old one and see what it look like... or get some long long matches
