Yes, you can die from scoliosis, but the truth is it's very rare. You would have to have a HUGE curvature of the spine, and even then it's hard. But when you do die from scoliosis, the reason is that your breathing is lacking because your lungs get crushed. You would either choke to death or just not breathe enough and die.

In some cases, yes.
Most scoliosis is a mild to moderate curve that may or may not require correction (brace or surgery). Scoliosis is pretty common (I have a slight curve in my spine) but in many, if not most cases, treatment is not needed.
In cases of a severe curve, scoliosis can be life threatening. A severe curve can lead to collapsing of the chest wall and increased pressure on the lungs, leading to difficulty breathing and life threatening episodes. From my understanding, a curve to that extent is not all that common. It must be corrected by surgery as a brace cannot handle such a curve.

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine, not a disease.
I found out I had scoliosis when I was about 13 years old. I have a mild case in my upper and lower back so surgery was not necessary for me and I didn't want to wear a brace. Nobody ever noticed that I am crooked! : )
I'm 51 years old now and I'm healthy!

Scoliosis is treated through surgery and braces to straighten the back.
Left untreated, the spine will continue to collapse upon itself, pinching the nerve supplies to various organs. If the nerve supply to the heart, lungs, liver and so forth is pinched off, then yes, you can die.

I think it's very rare. I think if a fetus/newborn has EXTREMELY severe scoliosis, it could be a risk. And I know it can cause complications as you get older, such as putting pressure on your lungs and decreasing their capacity.
